Is there a "proper" way to remove the door panel pocket backing... so that it can be put back on later. I need about 2 inches of depth in that sapce, and with the panel in i only have one. I think if i take out the back(which i know can be removed) i will have more space... What is the best way to take it out and not kill the plastic that holds it in .

Is it the plastic piece you're talking about??? Use a sharp blade or hack it off carefully. If you plan on using it again use a glue gun or get some extra plastic and melt it around the plastic backings edges if you want to put it back. Why you taking it off in the first place?

Yes, its 2 1/8 inch depth on my 4 inch midrange... It is a plastic piece. I never use my storage area there, so i figured it would be a clean look to mount them flush with the door. Ill take pictures if i can get it done without modifying the door panel.(this is my second set of doors, dont want to mess this one up)
