uh...what?
How do you hardwire a radar detector to a 12 volt power source without using the cigarette lighter adaptor? Is that what you're asking?

just jack into a spot in your fuse box that has the same voltage.

I have been meaning to give isaac my install for this for a while, but i don't have any pics. its pretty easy, first remove your dome light/sunroof controls (if you have one). cut the wires going into the cig adaptor on the power cord for the radar dectector, and then feed the wires though the roof from the area of the rear view mirror. mount the radar detector with behind the mirror and conntect the wire. next cut of the excess wire that should be hanging out out the dome light/sunroof control hole. strip back the wires, and the set the end of the ground wire in one of the screw holes for the dome light. then find the positive wire that is always on in the dome light power harness. this may take some experimenting, and i can't remember witch wire it was. splice into the wire and you have power. it is always on, but unless you are going to leave you car sit for a month or so it won't hurt the battery. also, this location for the detector keeps it hidden and out of view. your friendly neighborhood cop won't see it if he pulls you over! i will post pics if requested.

Okay, here's how I did mine. I bought a cigarette lighter from and auto shop and mounted it inside the console piggybacking on the exixting cigarette lighter wires. I did it this way so I didn't have to cut the cord from the radar detecor. Any-who, plug it into the new inlet and run the wire all the way up through the pillar. Let the end stick out and mount your detector in the corner. Last, plug it in. This is how I have it in both of my vehicles and it seems to work out just fine... Good luck.

PS. Tap the Pos lead from the Radar detector into the Blue w/White Striped Wire (It is the Pos. power for the Dome light)

I added a two-socket receptacle to the harness that goes to the stock lighter socket (I needed to install it there, since I needed an unfiltered power source for the shift indicator). It's fused on the positive lead for safety.
The receptacle was placed in the fuse panel area, and I have both my radar detector and the shift indicator plugged into it. The result is a clean, wire-free interior, with all cords routed behind the trim panels. best of all, it frees up the lighter socket in the center console.
I also have plenty of wire on the receptacle, so if I need to, I can remove it from behind the fuse panel, and put it on the passenger seat or whatever to power other accessories. that way, I didn't have to cut any accessory cords or anything, So I can use the detector or shift indicator in other vehicles.
