Hey can someone help me on how the celica's engine runs. I know that the valves open and close while the piston goes up and down, but if someone could explain a little more in depth, it would be helpful. The stock pistons come with recessed areas in them...i saw them when the guy working on my car took them out. What are the recessed areas for? And if he put dome-top pistons in my car, how will that effect the engine performance? Specifically in lift. I thought the rocker arm has a pin under it that engages at 6kRPM that forces the valves to open and close larger. If they open larger with dome-top pistons, wont the valves collide with the pistons? this is got to be confusing as hell...PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!

Did the shop that worked on your engine even know about lift?

go to www.howstuffworks.com [howstuffworks.com] and read about engines. then read the article about VTEC. that should help a little.
