I've gone 500 miles in my GTS now. I know 500 miles is considered to be the rule of thumb break in period, but Toyota recommends 1000 in the manual. So how long do you guys drive your Celica before you started hitting lift?

drive it for another 500 miles after the total 1,000 miles. Avoid high speeds, launches at stoplights and high-revving. Just because you have a car with variable valve lift control doesn't mean you should push it that hard. Go ahead and push it that hard but be warned; you'll seriously shorten the life of your engine if you start to abuse it brand-new

OR...

Read your owners manual

I know what the manual says but a second opinion never hurts.

True but there is always common-sense. Not trying to be a smart-ass.
