Ok so my car is on the fritz and its running in what I call phantom mode. I have wide feet and sometimes i hit the gas when I brake, and the car revs. Well this happened to me the other night and I thought it was the standard fat foot thing, except my foot wasn't on the pedal. The car starting revving itself. It just keeps gasing it and stopping between 1100rpm-3400rpms, up and down up and down, vvvrroomm..vrrommm...vrroo... and it worried me so i got home quick. I can just let out clutch and it drives itself because it gases it, step on brake as hard as can to stall and it keeps going. Went home, unplug ECU, reset and try again, car works fine. Next morning...phantom...night phantom. Does anyone know of anything like this? please help asap

Throttle Position sensor or mass air flow sensor. Those would be my guess.

did you try cleaning the maf? not just messing with it lol
also how many miles on the car? might wanna get some throttle body cleaner and spraying your IAC. that could help also.
** IAC = idle air controller. it's located under the throttle body.

Well you are going to need something to clean this with like some carb. cleaner. I am not sure where it is located but I would say that it is for sure one of the three things mentioned. I havent played around to much with my motor to tell you where is it.

ok awesome, quick question. Do you think its safe to drive for alittle, since the only thing it appears to be doing is wasting gas revving?, I need to drive my car since my beater is in the shop till sunday, then i'll swap.

Its could also be the PVC valve, take out the PVC valve blow into it if air doenst get through then it's the valve just replace it it's a $15-$20 fix. I had something similar happen to me and that fixed the problem.
