Ok, so I hope we all know that the Celica is FWD I-4. Now, put yourself in the lead engineers shoes. If you could have the celica designed differently, would you:
-give it RWD or AWD? Why?
Totally seperate issue: V6, I6 or t/c I4? Why?

awd... i could get off the line better...
rwd would make all the fake drifters have a celica...
l6 t/c vvtli would be really cool... i would doubt that by the way you think that 8th gen motor will fit the 7th gen easy- somewhat hard - hard- or never will work?

RWD. A reliable T/C I4 is fine.

Boy you sure are stuck on the RWD/FWD thing. Which Celica gens were FWD, and which RWD, I wonder:
Gens 1-3, RWD Gens 4-7, FWD (AllTrac was a Gen 4)
The later gens also had more HP.
I dunno, I guess I'd still like to see FWD, but it would be nice to have an AWD option.
I do agree that a 500 HP FWD tC is insane, and that it should be RWD. But raw HP has never been the Celica trademark. That was reserved for the Supra. A combination of speed and handling has always been what the Celica is about, and FWD (or AWD) supports that concept best.

True, but we're dreaming here. Celica is gonna be axed anyways...so...what the hell, have some fun. Me, I'd prefer an AWD platform, coupled with the t/c 4. Then again, I don't know much about toyota's awd systems, they're untested. Exnihlo, you just said that handling is the celica forte...FWD will never handle better than a RWD or AWD. Find me more than five examples where a FWD can school RWD/AWD on slalom numbers. Speed. Put serious numbers on a fwd and all you'll get is excessive torque steer and loss of traction. Torque steer leads back to the issue of decreased handling. Sounds like you're actually talking about RWD.

Assuming the weight could be balanced 50/50, then I'd want RWD. Better handling. You'd probably have to change engine placement though, and then you're competing with your own MR2.
It would be nice to have an I6 with a little more torque, but would you still be able to keep the engine all-aluminum and put up decent power numbers up? If not then it's increased weight, and I wouldn't want the car any heavier than it is.

I seen an AWD matrix and it pisses me off since it's similar to a celica powertrain-wise. The next logical step would have been to make the 7th gen AWD.
Damn matrix

To keep with the I-4 and RWD celica heritage. It would be a 2.5 liter engine, ball bearing t3 turbo, intercooled, Boost controller. 5spd for GT, 6spd for TRD and GTS. Gauge suite (oil, amps, fule mix.)
Trims, 2010 Celica: GT - 200hp - RWD, standard 2.5l i-4, limited slip, 16's, VVTL-i. GTS - 256hp - RWD, turbo, limited slip, Electronic Torque Distribution, VVTL-i, lowered, 17's, Gauge suite. TRD GTS- 270hp - RWD, turbo, limited slip, Electronic Torque Distribution, TRD body kit, HIDS, VVTL-i, 17's lightwieght, Gauge suite, TRD Suspension.

to keep it simple, all celica should be AWD I4, and charger would be more ideal...
