Just found out that i have the wrong size of tires on my car, I believe we are to have 50 series on our gts rims, i have 55s, I bought my car with these and had 2 tires go bad. Not thinking i replaced them with the size that was currently on the car. What is this doing for my performance, or not doing i should say? Will shorter tires help my take offs, not as in racing, but everyday driving is a pain to do. It either bogs or spins, It seems im letting out the clutch at 3k plus to get rolling. I wonder if new tires will make any difference?

It's basically the same as having bigger diameter wheels. It'll hurt your acceleration a bit cause bigger wheels effect your final gear ratio. So speed wise you're going faster at a give RPM than a celica with smaller (stock) wheel diameter. For example... instead of accelerating to 60mph at the end of 2nd gear, you're accelerating to 63mph, which takes more time, therefore effecting your acceleration time. Not sure if you understand what I mean. If someone here understand what I'm talking about and can explain it better than help me out. Overall an extra 5 series isn't a big deal, you're probably not gonna notice the difference. I just exaggerated a bit for the example. thumbsup

i am planning on replacing them after winter, they all have decent tread now, but are miss matched, plus are really cheap tires, 2 dunlops and 2 continentals. I want 4 of the same, but a decent tire, for a decent price too!

the 55 series is not that much different from the 50 series, its like 1-2 centimeters higher so you have a little bit bigger sidewall, which is actually better for daily driving with bumpy roads. If you want better "racing" performance then get wider tires with a lower ratio, probably 215-225 45 series but with the wider tires the lower series well actually give you about the same amount of height, but the wider width is better. And get good rubbers for the front atleast it'll help with spinning.

You might want to learn to drive your Celica a bit better, because you shouldn't need to rev to 3k+ then let the clutch go to drive normally. I used to do that too, because of being afraid the car would bog out, thats why you're spinning out.

So to answer your question, it doesn't really make much of a difference, if you don't really need new tires, then you don't really need to change them.

What type of clutch do you have, because i have the ACT HD clutch and that thing is so quick to go its sick. Have you had the clutch awhile, it might be worn some.
