I was just wondering if once in a blue moon if i shift using the (L, 2, and D) gears if it would damage my transmission. All of my friends do it but they could care less about their cars. I was just wondering. thanks for the replies.

it says in the manual book that you never hold the gas while manually shifting through the 3 gears.

IMO, the gears are there; why shouldnt you be able to use them?

though if you read the manual book, you'll read that the gears were meant for specific uses. i.e., going up hill, down hill, slowing down. thumbsup

ya i dig it, i have a gt auto and i do both, my friends say that "in newer cars you dont have to take your foot off the gas when shifting" but i do it anyways, its a good feeling, do you bring it all the way up to redline when shifting??

man is that a good feeling... our toyotas arent going to last long, ha ha... we are the select owners whos cars will last less then 100,000 miles, ha ha

yeah your suppose to. Because if you auto shift while holding the gas down, the motor will just rev and puts stress on the motor and tranny to compensate for the gear change during the shift.

I dont think i explained that right lol

don't be an idiot shifting an auto gt... if you want to shift, should have gotten a manual in the first place... shifting an auto will just put more damage to your car... its not worth it for crappy speeds anyways
