last night i was working on my car and put it in a low gear and put the e-brake on...when i took my foot off the gas, the car started rolling down the driveway! it appears my e-brake is totally gone. why? i have no idea. i only use it when i park on an incline. anybody have any ideas or know how much it'll cost to get fixed? cry

you might have snapped or loosened the cord.

He probably would have noticed this over time. Though it is still a possibility.

Tighten the E brake and see if it helps. Worked for me.

yep it probably just needs to be re-tightened. or maybe you need to replace your shoes/pads.

The shoes/pads aren't as easy as replacing say brake pads. I'm sure you could do it yourself, but Toyota will charge I think about $100 to replace them (I asked before). That's for parts and labor.
If you owned a GTS with 4 wheel disk brakes I would recommend adjusting them through the holes on each of the back rotors. Takes 2 seconds. I don't know how the drums operate on the Celica sorry. Drum brakes=crap=pain in the ass.

Unbolt/unscrew and remove your center armrest console.

Once off, on the right side of the Parking Brake lever, you will see 2 bolts on top of each other. The top one is the locking bolt, the on below it is the adjusting bolt. Untighten the locking bolt and tighten the adjusting bolt to your desired clicks. I keep mine in the 6-7 range.
