I was daydreaming today thinking about what I want to do to my car in the future, and I started thinking about engine swaps. I know the only one done is the 3S-GTE swap, but what determines what engine(s) can fit in a car (not necessarily ours)? In case you're wondering, the engine I'd like to drop into my Celica is the new RENESIS 2-Rotor in the new RX-8's grin

i love the idea of a rotary engine. much more simple than a piston engine. the RENESIS and the 2JZ-GTE are my favorite engines, and i'd gladly take either in my celica. speaking of the 2JZ, if it sat in the same orientation as the 1zz (i.e. if looking at it from front of car, the cylinders are arranged left to right), anyone think it'll fit (engine only, not airbox or alternator or anything like that.)

i know it's a lot of work and a lot of time. i'm not thinking about doing it within the next few years. yes, BReakinDrifTs, i am dreaming. that's what made me ask. i got the idea from the 86 trueno that has a mazda 20B 3-rotor. i also brought it up because i don't think anyone has thought about throwin' a rotary into a celica, or the idea of rotating a 2JZ-GTE engine to fit the width of the engine bay, rather than the length. Mywidecelica, there aren't any easy swaps. the only swap that's been done (outside of 1zz -> 2zz) was a 3S-GTE swap, a 2.0 turbocharged iron block I4.

That rotary engine in the Celi would be pretty cool. Something fun to think about, anyway.

A rotary into a celica Might be harder than you think the Rx-7/8 are rwd cars celica's as we all know are not. dont get me wrong it would kick ass but that would be a lot of custom trany work. on the lighter side i have seen a rx-7 with a supra eng. before its pretty phat (sport compact car had a thing on it)

rwd to fwd costs like 25k. because you need to fabricate a transaxle or an adapter that'll fit the 2zz transaxle. putting the 2jz in sideways forget about it you won't get ti to fit a bit long an the whole transaxle thing comes into play.

swaping in a foreign engine is extremely difficult because you have to figure out whole new ways for that engine to successfully funstion in that chasis. I know for a fact that Toyota and RMM spent a lot of time and money to make the "ultimate celica" supposedly its 4wd and holds 500 hp, yet i've never seen that thing move.
