if you have a stock radio -i was told that it has a built in crossover for the front component speakers-the are also installed with a rivet so you will need some kinda of install kit--go to best buys or ciruit city and ask some questions about insatlling speakers--i would get some 6 1/2 woofers for the front and 6 1/2 3way speakers in the back and leave in the stock tweeters--poineer makes a reasonably priced pair of 6 1/2's --i have my stock speakers installed--but added a q-logic box with a rockford sub amp and p-1 punch subs--sounds incredible-too much speaker for the car--if you install subs insatll 10 inch

well if you have a GTS you already have JBLs so moving to something like sony would be a DOWNgrade. Shop around for a nice set of components, I like boston accoustics but they're a bit $$$

^^ in all seriousness you'd get a similar sound from replacing the speakers as you would getting a nice amp and just amping the stock ones.

I have Bostons. They sound great but your right they were a bit expensive.
