Somebody please help me quick!!

My stupid sister just poured some windshield fluid about (1 litre) into the coolant tank. She thought the coolant tank is for the windshield. What should I do? confused
I guess I would need a full coolant flush for my car.

I have 2 options here...
1. Bring it back to the dealer and let them take care of it. But my only concern is that they may void their warranty and there is anything wrong with the car...

2. or...bring it to a small shop, and ask them to just do flush the coolant for my car.

What do you guys think?

more bad news... angry angry
she just told me that this is the 2nd time she did it. She did it once during the summer, she poured about 3 litres of the windshield washer into the coolant tank!!

Is this going to cause long-term problems for my car?

Also, how is she able to put so much washer fluid in so little time. Is your car consuming coolant?

Take her out to the car and have her show you exactly where she poured the fluid in. Like RookieGTS says, you have to take off the engine plastics to add coolant; not something she likely did. Maybe if you're lucky, she actually poured the fluid into the windshield washer reservoir after all.

WTF!!!

just wondergin how old is she rofl...

i was gonna say dont turn your engine on... but if she's done it before maybe it doest affect... but i dont know... if you havent turned your car on the "windex" is sittin in the coolant tank... you can just drain the tank and then put some water to flush everything in there then refill it w/ coolant

good luck man thumbsup

If for some strange reason you don't have engine plastics just take it to a small shop & have it flushed. You'll have to do it sooner or later anyway.

i've actually run out of coolant before. i was driving (not in my celica) and i popped the tubing off the radiator spilling fluid for like two blocks before i noticed the smoke out the front and the wet trail behind me.

had my car towed back to my uncles house. it was actually the water pump broke. we replaced that (got the part at autozone) and filled it with water 'til i could get coolant from wal*mart (this was summer though). with just water the temp does run higher but doesn't overheat.

you're in canada though and it's winter. i'd get one of those coolant percentage things (they have those balls that float) to determine its freezing temp (that's what i'd be worried 'bout. washer fluid in a high temp situation might leave residue as it evaporates but so does that leak-seal/leak-stop crap for sealing the cooling system against leaks.

i have not done this on the celica but i would assume all autos are the same. there is a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and you could just dump it all out yourself (proper disposal of the radiator fluid maybe an issue though). i wouldn't even bother flushing it with water (it's not like she put sand in it). then just fill it up with 50/50 water/coolant. and that's it. in the summer it's no problem but it being winter and all in canada...

good luck.

rofl no offense to your sister but thats damn stupid... i dunno if the chemicals will do any damage, but the water content in it will help some what, my dad used to run his old Ford LTD on pure water... but dont even take it to the shop, just flush it yourself, shops charge so much for a flush that you can do yourself for like $10
