i'm wondering if i need a new clutch. What are some ways you know it's going out and when to replace it? Are there ways you can wear them out quicker?

it will take a while for the cluth to grip... the RPM's will shoot up and down and when you floor it the clutch will lose grip.. if you have very hard time accelerating then you know to bring it into the shop to get the clutch checked out

yeah i'm new to this manual world also...It seems like mine is going too...but i'm at 62k so should it be? I notice it only when i'm driving really hard. When i redline, shift and nail the gas again...the needle stops just barely in lift like it should...but then it drops down to like 5900 before it starts accelerating back up. For a while i thought it was my tires slipping...but i can't really hear it because my engine is loud so...anyone know?

If your clutch is going your RPMs will jump for no apparant reason. It would be tough to tell under hard acceleration whether or not it is the clutch because it could be tire slippage.

a good way to test your clutch (in a gts) is to go 45 mph put it in 6th and floor the gas, if the rpms start to go up but the car isn't going any faster then your clutch is burnt out. and 45 is a good test speed because its too slow for 6th gear so it will put more force on the clutch, if its good, the car will slowly speed up, if its bad the clutch will slip and the rpms will go up. as for a gt do the same but with 5th gear, just go slow enough to where 5th is not the optimal gear.

45mph then to 6th, i'll have to try it for kicks. my replacement clutch only has like 15,000 miles on it so of course it should be good. i planned on switching out the clutch & flywheel out way before the oem clutch wears out though so it shouldn't be an issue in the future. i wonder what the aftermarket clutch lifespan is...
