After reading so much about it, I decided to go out and buy the Mothers California Gold Clay Bar System.

I've never done this b4, but I was told it was easy and I can actually follow directions really well rofl so we'll see how this comes out.

I'm just worried when the instructions say, you will HEAR the clay bar removing the contamination...wtf?? lol

I'll let you all know how it turns out wave

So, first of all THANK YOU ALL for the "love and support" rofl

Secondly, I have no idea how my car came out b/c I ran out of daylight! That and I was so friggin worried I was gonna screw up if I didn't use enough lube that I RAN OUT (is that bad? I mean can ya use too much??)

Anyway I got about 90% of the car done. I still have the roof and a little bit of the back to go. It'll have to wait though because tomorrow I'm detailing the inside and attempting to put on the overlays...that should be interesting.

Unfortunaley, no before/after pics because I forgot (sorry) I dunno though man I think I should just start saving for a new paint job because I swear the dude before me didn't love this car!!! cry cry

Hey, anyone wanna give me a loan to go get a new one? grin

to be continued...

I used the Mothers California Gold Clay Bar two weeks ago. I washed the car as usual. When I opened the box for the bar I found a spray bottle of touch up "quick" wax, polishing compound, and a small clay bar(it fit in the palm of my hand the bar was so small).

I looked for detailed instructions and there were none. I remember there was a sheet that said to roll the bar into a ball then flat'n it so the impurities would be trapped in it.

I used the clay bar first. To see how good it was I decided to do half the hood. I sprayed the hood with a fine mist of touch-up wax and glided the bar over the paint. I covered the area twice. I didn't seem to matter how hard I pressed the bar against the paint. Both sides got the cleaner wax that came with the kit, Maguires Polishing wax, then the liquid Tech Wax.

The side I used the clay bar on looked like it had a fresh paint job. The side I did not use the bar on still had swirls. I did the top sides of the car, driver side, then dropped it on the ground! I could feel the dirt in the clay so that was death of that bar. I don't guess I could use play dough.

Bottom line is the crazy thing did an awesome job! I just wish I could find another bar and not pay $15 for the whole kit again!

It takes the swirls out of the paint's finish. I heard that it was abrasive, but the polishing compound feels way more abrasive that the clay bar does.

well what it really does it is takes off anythign tha tisnt paint. for instance, thsoe hwith white cars, you probably have thos elittel rust type dots all over your car. MY sisters had them, jsut littel ruff dots. Well claybar gets rid of them. If you paint is just kinda ruff and evne wax isnt fixing that any more, the claybar takes out the little particles in the paint and makes it new again. I use mine after washing and before waxing like its said to. I havent used it to get swirlmarks off. So prettymuch every 6 months use it to get ur paint back to new again.

Oh and its most recent use was, my dads truck got white spraypant overspray all over it fomr some schmuck at his work. He whole truck looked liek it was constantly dirty becaue of all the white dots. Well the damn claybar took off all the spraypaint too. It has taken a few trys but eventually we got all the spraypaint off with it. I highly reccomend it to anyone with an older car to bring it back to new'ish smile

Yeah I got mine at Advance Auto too for like $15.94. I don't think I did it correctly or something got in the clay b/c I still have the swirl marks everywhere, but I did notice a bit of a difference in the feel of the paint.

Now that I know it's not all that difficult I may try it again here soon b/c the paint isn't as smooth as I think it could be (that and like I said I didn't get to finish the whole car)

gl maingear and everyone else that has yet to try it thumbsup

i never read instructions, but my neighbro is a detailer for cars so he told me hwo to do it wink All i can say is, after you wash ur car, you do the carshow spray and claybar then. do a smal area, 1x1ft at a time. dont go in circles, go in lines parralell. dont go over each line to many times. jsut liek twice. and amke sure if you ahve to go over it again, wipe off the resin and then do it agian. After doing a seciton (say the hood, or a door) i buff out the resin left. Then i use the "cleaner wax" jsut liek any wax, put on the buff off. Then i do my last stage, the sealer and glaze. Gives it the greatwet look. jsut makes sure when you put the wax on, do swirl, do in lines. the just buff off perferrably with buffer, if not use go agian the lines then along the lines. Should come out like glass smile

A claybar isn't made to remove swirl marks, it's made to remove imperfections in the paint. Make sure you cut the clay bar into thirds to get more uses out of it incase you drop it. You can use the claybar while washing your car and just use soap and water as lube.

SON OF A BITCH!!!!!! cry

#1 - righteous_one I'm jealous eek happywink
#2 - Teknikal NOW you tell me to cut it! rofl I got the whole direction thing down but I thought you HAD to use it with the detailer spray or whatever it came with...so you mean I coulda finished the rest of my car with just soap and water??? dammit-to-hell! Someone awhile back said not to use it with water confused ...mmmm maybe it's the soap part that acts as the real lube

Hey, how often can you use that stuff? I mean like a month from now could I try it again while I'm washing the car???

Ok so for the swirls I gotta find something else got it thumbsup

The main reason you cut it is so you don't drop it and lose the whole bar just one piece. I clay generally every other time I was my car I will do spot claying (feel wherever the car is rough and clay that or if there's a spot I cannot remove by running my mitt over the car I will use a clay bar.)
