There aren't any that are direct replacements and you don't need one.

Depends where U at mane! Hi-flo cats by CATCO can give U more HP, but some states won't allowem. Unless U go headers and str8 pipe too, wont be enuff HP to mess wid! smile

Its a good idea, but on our Celicas, I don't think a highflow CAT gives you any more power for some strange reason.

There 50 bucks on ebay. Do you think they are just as good or better than our stock cats?

Magnaflow is quality, not a $50 ebay CAT.

it remains to be proven either way. correct me if someone has already done dyno tests. sure the gains won't be much, but then again gains from the AEM alternator pulley around the same price range is not much either, but everything helps, right? or should I say everything adds up.

yes, it could be better than our stock CATs. there are aftermarket exhausts better than our stock exhausts, and making 180 hp at the crank stock in a 1.8 L is pretty darn good.

btw, one can argue that the CAT in most cars is the most restrictive component in the exhaust system. A stock Celica GTS with stock CAT should pass emissions with flying colors in CA. When I went to get my smog test with ONLY aftermarket magnaflow CAT (non CARB), and aftermarket exhaust, I barely passed my smog test. An aftermarket exhaust should not make a car barely pass smog. It was the CAT. I believe this attests to how restrictive a California compliant CAT is. Because of the way that it is designed to reduce hydrocarbons and other pollutants more efficiently, I believe it is more restrictive. If all US Celicas come with a CAT that is held to the highest standards in CA, then all Celicas can benefit from a higher flowing (higher polluting) CAT.

GTS58, you WOULD need one if your stock CAT had lost its efficiency AND you have a smog test coming up AND your 80k miles are up (obviously 8 yrs has not passed lol).

for those in CA not willing to risk not passing their smog test, magnaflow sells Cali compliant CATs.

if you have to pass a tailpipe sniff smog test AND given that you're supercharged, I think it might be a good idea to get the CA compliant CAT, which would be magnaflow's 43000 series. I'm not sure if the CA compliant ones are sold on ebay. on the 7th gen's the stock piping around the CAT is 60mm or about 2.36". The closest sized magnaflow CATs are 2.25" and 2.5". going down to 2.25" would be creating more restriction. personally I'd go with the 2.5" and the product number would be 43006. perhaps you would be the first to try to pass smog with a supercharged Celi (without tipping of course).

it's not really a big deal being .14" difference so you could just weld the pipes together. that's why 2.5" is good since the welds cause a small amount of restriction. in case you're worried about your CAT eventually getting burned up by your S/C, you can have flanges welded before and after the CAT, so the removal is cleaner = no cutting. you don't want to be cut, weld, cut, weld, etc..
but you wouldn't have to worry about putting a new CAT in until your next smog test, so the flanges would be thinking ahead.
