Ok so I will be going to the 1/4 mile track this Friday, and need a technique. When I do a burn out, should I just pull the ebrake up and slowly press the gas?
And do "e-brakes" last a long time? How much are the pads to replace? Or are they just the regular brake pads? Thanks..

i dunno bout auto burn outs but if you do the ebrake thing, it wont last for crap..but you do have a park so it isnt that much of a problem...

skip the burnout all together (unless the track makes you do one as some tracks require).

in an auto, you won't spin the tires when you launch anyway so you won't lose traction (which is the whole point of a burnout..to get the tires sticky so you won't spin out as much when you launch).

i dunno, maybe if you do a power launch (hold down brake pedal while giving it gas then release brake). my friends who has an auto gts though says the car won't let him rev that high, even with the brake pedal down. might be a tiptronic thing though.

yeah the autos dont let you rev high when your power braking, kinda wierd!

this is interesting i have never been on the track but this summer i will be turbocharged and i am definately gonna have to learn how to do all this...so the best way to launch and auto is hold the brake and rev to like 6k? thats as high as mine will go when stopped

well if you pull the ebrake up and slam the gas you MAY get a little spin, but your car will bounce around like crazy for some reason. i did it a few times at the track and the only way you can spin the tires really good is if the tires are very wet and the surface of the track in front of you is wet. otherwise you will just get a bumpy ride if you do the ebrake thing.
but it is possible to get a good burnout from an auto, other night it was wet on the street and from a stop light i just slammed the gas and i burned out all the way through lift. so it is possible under the right conditions.

oh and the reason like caleb said that i cant rev passed 2000rpms is becuase on the autos thats the fuel cut off point. so when you got to launch the car at the tree, just hold down the brake pedal and rev the engine up to 2000rpms. kinda helps with the tourque converter lag.

just put it in "N" rev to 5000 and switch it to "D"...

do that a lot so your tranny gets used to it.

most street tires dont even get more stick when you burn out. you should get some drag radial for best traction

like everyone said probably best not to do the Ebrake thing if you slam on your gas and dunno how the celica triptronic does it but if you can keep it in 1st longer you might be able to get a good burn out, you'll still probably move forward though just spinning th etires a lot more than your moving. The E brake just manual compresses the brake pads with a lever and cable mechanism so it's your regular hydraulic breaks your using just incase say your master cylander fails you can still use the breaks on the manual e brake. so they don't have seperate pads the only thing you'll wear out from messing with it too much is probably your cable will need to be tightened if you do it too much or other parts of the linkage.

PS if you neutral drop, expect to be getting a new transmision soon. even one time can royally F it up. auto trannys are delicate and fragile..

alright thanks for the comments, Im gonna try at least once to put it in drive under tiptronic in first gear and slowly apply the ebrake as I give it more gas. The surface is gonna be wet since they hose it down. Should be cool thumbsup And oh, I have done the brake pedal launching thing where you rev to about 2000. It helps a little, but its not worth the brake pad wear rolleyes

If you only do the brake-torquing while you are at the track and dont go crazy with it, you will be fine. Without brake torquing, your times are probably gonna be very disappointing. I might also be going to the track this weekend but I cant brake-torque at all without spinning my tires spineyes

With intake and exhaust I got 16.9. With exhaust I got 17.4. I cant find the time slip of the i/e but I do have the exhaust slip. Plus I dont have the intake anymore so if it doesnt get rained out this saturday, we can compare to see what the supercharger added. It sucks though because my tires are bald and I never hooked up overdrive which seemed to take .2 off my runs.

^^ jeff (celimangts17) ran in the low 17s (like 17.2 or so...as already noted you'll go faster just putting it in drive) doing the tiptronic shifting totally stock.

we put on his intake and exhaust, but he also installed a pretty beafy sound system in the hatch. his times slowed to 17.4 i believe. lol ask what his dad did in his z06

lol. My bad. If I get in the 15's I will be happy. Yeah the best n/a auto gt (and gts) time I know of is a 16.22.I was trying to figure out why he was so fast and he said my time of 16.9 was somewhat slow. Turns out he somehow failed to mention he was running with (intake, exhaust,) drag radials and weight reduction and also shifted through the gears himself rolleyes . I dont have drags or take anything besides the spare out and also dont shift through the gears. That gt time of 16.4 seems to be one of those crazy fast motors.

17.2 was totally stock using tiptronic (no weight savings whatsoever)

17.4 was with new intake/exhaust AND heavy ass sound system...it was all done before the next visit to the track. (also no weight savings whatsoever).

I knew you were talking about with i/e ct. Its still fairly fast unless he took out a bunch of shit. I didnt actually see the 16.2. This is what he said and put up on the quarter mile time sheet of coarse.

alright well either friday night or saturday I will post time slips of the following:
1) Tiptronic shifting (which I got pretty good at)
2) Putting it in drive (gunning the gas at the start)
3) Putting it in drive (not gunning the gas at the start)
4) Whatever I feel like tongue

Keep in mind, I have an Auto GTS With an Injen Short Ram intake and a Tanabe Super Racing Medallion Exhaust. Im also running on Low profile Yokohama tires with about 33lbs of pressure in each tire.

haha well without my system my times prob would have been good. but to correct caleb, he is giving me too much on that time. i would have been happy to run a 17.4. i actually was running consistent 17.7s. so if you want ur car to be fast dont do what i did and put in a heavy ass system rofl. im not worried about my car being super fast or anything right now anyway. if i wanted my car to be faster i wouldnt have plans for fiberglassing the dash coming up rofl. my car is all show right now and just a little go to make me happy and until i get a 6spd swap like i want to do, the next perfomace mod i am gonna do is N20. so that will be enough go for me grin

oh and rick try not gunning the gas off the line, i have found that it just feels like the car gets up and goes if you give it about half throttle maybe a little more and then once you are moving give full throttle. kinda helps with tourque converter lag thumbsup

with full exhaust( hooker headers, high flow cats, x pipe, and corsa exhaust) and intake.
prob about 450hp.
i only beat like 2 cars there, my dad beat an old general lee replica car.

haha 12.4 really isn't bad for a guy who really doesnt run his car hard a lot. how often does he race it anyway? like once a year at the mopar meet?

yea well the reason he doesnt go a lot is cause it wears his tires out very fast. and his tires are like 300 bucks for the rears and around 200 for the fronts. and thats a piece eek and he just put on his new set so, he doesnt want to drive it that hard at the track alot. cant afford it, lol.

Doesnt sound right. You want to underinflate your fronts so you get more contact area and you want to overinflate your rears for less rolling resistance. Someone confirm this because it would go past common sense.

Edit: I did a search and it is that you want your fronts underinflated and your rears inflated more (some say to its max).

Alright so i taped a burnout of mine last night, i figured Id try one before I went to the track. So me, a corolla, and a Titan went to a parking lot and sprayed some water on the ground. I did a great burnout in an auto and heres how it went:
I started with my front two tires in the water, and I pressed the accelerator as I put the ebrake up.
After no time I was in lift eek
I was just spinnin away for about a good 5 seconds and then when I was at about 7,000 rpms I let off the ebrake, and my car went for about 10 feet until I came to a stop. It was definitly worth the experience thumbsup
I wont do it much though because I dont feel like paying for a new ebrake.

And about the tire pressure thing...
I went to discount tires yesterday to get my tires balanced and rotated, and I told the guy that I was going to the track. He told me:
"Well Im putting 34 pounds of pressure in your front tires and 32 pounds of pressure in your back tires."
"When you go to the track though, Id put about 20 pounds of pressure in the front so you get more traction which is what you need."

Upload the video. Yeah you will want 18-20 psi in the fronts. The backs either keep the same or inflate up to the max safely.

theres no 2000 fuel cutoff it stops there cause the egine can't break the brakes free and that jsut happens to be the spot were the tq converter is at full lock
