Ok, so right now I have 2.5" custom piping with some generic muffler (see pic). I've come to the point where I just want to get rid of that big ass muffler and weld something else on the piping. I don't want to buy a whole new exhaust so that means I'm going to have the same 2.5" catback piping, but I want to get rid of that muffler because it is too loud and it looks to big.

Here is my question: If I buy a TRD style tip (not a muffler) and take off the old muffler and put the tip on there, what kind of noise could I expect (since it's custom piping?)? Will I just go back to the stock noise (no sound) or will it sound weird?

What I want is just a tip so I don't have a big ass muffler and I would much rather go back to having no sound (i've gotten over that "fart can" sound stage) come from my muffler so I was wondering if just welding on a tip would do this...

Any help?

No a tip won't bring the sound of your car down. It will probably be the same. And the 2.5 piping doesn't really help either. Unless you put the stock muffler back on then it will help, or something similar to stock.

yeah mufflers muffle exhaust noise that's their only purpose if you get rid of it it'll just make it louder. if you want quieter go back to stock or get greddy/trd exhaust, heard they're pretty mellow which is a good thing.
