I was going to get the aem alt. pully but i found this, what do you all think? i can't find what it includes, is the med. size one the alternator? look it over...
these will give you better gains and faster acceleration. the ss set comes with the crank and alternator (and the water pump pulley, if you have a gts).
Someone had a set of these pullies on their car (along with other mods). Their engine completely died/blew up/whatever you want to call it. He told everyone what happened and his mods. So everyone is freaking out about them. Oh, he also told everyone that he was 3 qts low on oil...everyone seems to forget that part.
SO ... verdict? what do you think, is it possibly bad enough for the fgine where i shouldn't buy. or isit worth the additional wear and tear?
Depends on what you want your car for. Of course every mod adds to wear and tear on the motor. If you race a lot or want as much power possible, then get them.
isnt the pulley the aprt that will help increas eaccleration but will result in lower battery rechariging or something? which emans if you have a big sound system, it wouldnt be wise to do this mods.
well to clear thing up the original oem pullies have harmonic balancers to absorb certain vibrations that are harmful to your engine and other components that can be loosened, Aftermarket pullies do not have this feature and that's why they are harmful to your engine, I think if you are hardcore about racing and want the maximum performance out of you vehicle at any cost you should do it, but if you want o be safe this mod can be skipped. some pros is that it give noticable torque, especially to our 4 cylinder cars. thats always a plus, but in the end it's up to you.

shite is that true about the balancers? i would have never thought about that... good call
I pre-ordered the UR pullies from Titan Motersports to be sure that I would get them the second they came out, so I have had the entire set on my car for a couple of years now.
Zero problems.
I hear the harmonic dampener thing come up all the time, but I have yet to see any proof that any measurable amount of wear will occur from not having a dampener. All the talk that I have heard and read has all been in "theory". People who push the whole harmfull harmonic frequency thing have a lot of ideas to spread but fail to even attempt to back up these ideas with any actual tests on engines. How much wear do these people propose that un-dampened harmonic frequency's cause? What possable level of damage can a frequency cause? Because if my engine won't show any signs of wear from harmonic frequencies until it has 800,000 miles on it, I don't think that I will worry about it. Get my point?

that's a relief... so do you feel any gains from them?

I definitely feel a very good gain from them, probably around what Silver suggested. I felt a slightly greater gain from the pullies than I did from my intake (blitz SUS) or exhaust (TRD), plus the engine revs more quickly due to the reduction in rotational mass.
My finely tuned, highly sophisticated, precision "butt dyno" says that the pullies are definite a worth while mod. I would recommend them.
It might just be me being stupid, but i was going to order those until i clicked "order" and it said that they were for the vvt-i. which we all know is the GT engine, i have a GTS. Can someone confirm or deny that these are only for the GT engine?
i'd never put UR on my car. i read too many thinkgs about them and when toyo finds out you put them on..all damage related to those pulluies are not under warranty. i did a huge search on this and found it was not worth the risk.

because the alternator (the thing that provides electrical power to things like gauges, monitors, and audio equipment while the car is on) is being underdriven (it gets spun by the engine half as much because the pulley is half as big as the stock pulley), the battery will take longer get charged up. this isnt really a problem though becuase you shouldnt really have to worry about it anyway.
it is not smart to use an underdrive pulley on a car with a lot of electrical dependency (lots of subs, amps, monitors, etc.) because the system will not be supplied with enough power from the alternator.
in other words, the stock alternator can power a stock audio system, underdriven or not. it cannot however, power a fully built system, and be underdriven at the same time.
getting them or not is all a matter of what you want, faster acceleration and revving, or a system that you can be proud of.
the never ending descision of show or go... (and in this case you cant have both )
i really dont think the UR pulley is bad its just the matter of how it is installed
they are not bad, but will cause wear on the motor since it is not stock size and was not made for the engine specifically the way it was from the factory...if you get what I am saying.
so i am running a Rockford 1500 watt which at most is pulling 500 watts and a 200 watt sub which at most is pulling 150 W. this is all i have running, but i am probably going to add more. if i had a cap running the system you think it would be ok? what about the system as is? think the pully would cause a problem?
awww screw it, i think i will just buy the set. i will eventually get a better alt. if i have to. i suddenly hae a little extra cash, and i am going to do my best to make my celi great in every way possible.

cool.
im sure that you will be happy.
something else that is a worthy accelerational imporver is a lightweight flywheel. intense motorsports has a few. the one from toms and the fidanza are probably the 2 that you will be looking at.
i was considering it, but i have heard it seriously decreases engine life, and is best used in conjuction with a turbo/supercharger. don't know if that is a myth or not.

I have the AEM pulleys, I luv them. Check this site they are cheap here.http://www.racerwheel.com/engine-pulley-toyota.html
WOW!!!! almost $21 Shipping
We've shipped out hundreds of these pulley kits over the past year and shipping cost is less than $6
Its interesting though - we're both in California Sherman Oaks vs City of Walnut (about 45 minutes away from each other) so shipping should even be less than $5 if going from city-to-city / ie; keeping it within the state
It's not just your imagination... Your day really does go by twice as fast while on EverythingCelica.com
