Guys, I just install 5 really big box of extreme dynamat (one you find in best buy) in my 2 door, rear, and trunk w/ 2 10' subwoofer. My Celica is getting really heavy. No more racing for me, I guess. Anyway, can my stock suspension handle this weight or should I buy new one or tighten it??? Thanx

Yes, I can feel the additional weight because those 5 boxes of dynamat + 2 10 subwoofer are kindna heavy. I find myself pushing the gas more when up hill, well, more than usual.

try a carbon fiber hood, that should reduce the weight of your car by about 30 lbs which should offset the additional weight from your dynamat and subs.

does it sound better now? or is it the same as before? did you just take the interior out and stick it all over the interior or did you just put it where it was rattling? how much do 5 big boxes of dynamat cost? too many questions, i know. grin

Silver, it does sound a lot better and the whole trunk doesnt rattle as much except for the hatch|The only rattling I can hear now are the trunk handle from the outside only. When you have your window and sunroof close, its very quiet inside. Worst every penny! 5 boxes of extreme dynamat cost me around $380 including tax.

Actually sound dampening has a variety of purposes, foremost being to kill roadnoise, its doesn't stop rattling as much as it quiets the road. Its not the bare peices of metal that rattle and create those annoying buzzes, its the things attached to it, like plastic clips and controls. There's really no was to fix that except a soft mat deadening which still may not work. 60sq ft of dynamat doesn't weigh very much, 15lbs probably maybe a little more. There are much cheaper alternatives to dynamat also that you should look at if you're going to od the entire car. Edead, www.edesignaudio.com [edesignaudio.com] , Raamaat, second skin, etc... These are much cheaper and provide with the same or even better results.

Cheapest alternative to dynamat that I know of is a building supply for roofing.

It's called "IceGuard" and using to protect roofs from, duh, Ice ... It's basicly the same stuff as dynamat, but a hell of a lot cheaper plus you can buy it it bulk easily.

what do you have to do to install it? just rip everything out of the inside of the car (seats, door panels, carpet, etc.) and then just stick it on and put everything back? it sounds like it would take all weekend to do an entire car...

You have to clean the surface first with simple green or a degreaser, then if you heat the surface, apply the deadener and heat the deadener it works best. A heat gun makes the process a lot easier.

Yup, you have to rip those plastic in your trunk, take out the back seat, the roof, and so on. Anywhere you want to dynamat. Especially the trunk and the floor. It's very straight forward, but time consuming. The best time to do it is when the weather is hot. The tool that you need are a roller and a scissor. When you buy the dynamat theres instruction so theres nothing to it. Cut, peel, stick it on, and roll|thats all. I just hate bringing my car to best buy or any install base because I know they wont do it right. Last time they install my audio, they mess up my door sill.

Take me almost 14 hours to dynamat the whole trunk, 2 front door + rear. That's because this stuff is new for me and i'm being extra careful...

Your call...I don't trust those installer. Who know what they'll do to your car. Do it yourself knowing you do it right and being extra careful to the car. Taking those thing out is very straight forward. Take me 14 hours, but maybe 2 hours for them...ummmm...

dude lmao at the guy talkin sh*t on best buy those guys are certified an have to go through hours of training if you f*ck up once you get your ass fired, on the other hand all the so call ed specialty shops for car audio, those guys are rejects pulled off the street and they cut up your wiring to do any type of install...seriously if you are gonna have any audio work done go somewhere where they are M.E.C.P. certified, they can legally work on your car and it will not depreciate value grin

have you ever been to one of those places? Certified doesn't mean shit, you can pass your certification with a 65. an actually reputable audio shop, you know, those places that can actually make something with fiberglass, or install a headunit with cracking your dash, are certified also, And 9 out of 10 times at a good shop there is atleast one master installer not just the bs certs that best buy people get.

Not to mention at circuit city the hiring process is based on your communication skills and not your installation skills. So feel free to go to those 2 places, where they wire your new headunit wrong, and your alarm wont open the doors, and have fun waiting while they try and do it right for the second time.

Yah best buy/circuit city is the last place I would go for audio installation. The certification is a joke.

Do it yourself if you know how, for example: dynamat is a very easy process. Audio|umm, Ill leave it to the so call professional, but check everything to make sure it work right. Last time I let them dynamat my two front door they break a pieces on my door sill and broken a screw, on which my door rattle a bit if bass hit hard because the screw cant be put in. Thats why I decided to dynamat the trunk + rear and part they miss in the two front door. Just be careful and know what youre doing and everything will be find.
