Ok dont tell me to search it, I know this is a question thats never been asked before. My friend has a Jeep, he told me tonight that he has no manifold, he replaced it with headers. Does that make sense?

yeah it makes sense. i think manifolds don't have individual pipes running into one pipe it's just one wide pipe that tapers gradually to fit into a downpipe.

He tried to tell me that my car has no headers. And that if I do have headers then I have no manifold. So stupid. But I think I got it now, another Jeep vs Import thing.

Ok well now Im confused again, he says his manifold went bad so he had headers installed.
I need to stop talking to him, he contradicts everything that Ive learned.

okay.. this is sort of what i'm talking about manifold header notice how the manifold has one big sack where the exhaust collects and how the header has 4 to 2 to 1 pipe config.

once gases exit the cylinder, they "flow" into an exhaust manifold. From the manifold they flow into a pipe, again, he is an idiot and should not be working on cars, much less drive one.

again, he is an idiot and should not be working on cars, much less drive one. Well said! With friends like that your better off with a bicycle.

headers are configured so that each cylinder's burst of exhaust doesn't collect into one big burst of exhaust like in a manifold creating backpressure, but rather a stream of exhausts for smoothness and less backpressure.
