I just got done installing my AEM CAI, and the first few times I tried to start it, it would start, and then die almost immediately. The 3rd try or so, it sputtered, and then it kept running, but the check engine light came on, and I could smell what seemed to be fuel.
Also, I had a small tube left that I didn't install from the AEM box. I'm thinking that I overlooked it, or something else. Any suggestions?

Ok, my stupid ass forgot to plug the cable back into the air sensor thing that I had to screw onto the CAI tube. But another thing. When I turn it off, it makes a grinding type of sound, almost exactly like the noise you hear from grinding the starter. Sounds like it could be one of the vaccuum tubes sucking some air out of god knows what? Any ideas, or is this normal?

Yeah, it seems to work okay now except for the sound when I shut it down, and now when I start it, it shakes a little for a split second, but other than that, I guess it's fine. Any suggestions? Thanks... thumbsup

S'up bro,

Congrats on the intake, I'm sure you'll love it! My Injen SRI makes a short sucking/hissing sound when I shut off the engine...that or I'm just overhearing the sound of the intake taking in air as the car shuts off. spineyes Whatever...should be normal as long as it's not really a grinding sound. If you have any doubts about your install double check everything and take it into a shop to make sure everything is hooked up ok. They'll probably check it out for free, IMO better than screwing up your engine if something wasn't done right. Good luck!
