What Street Prototype sounds correct. I'm not a mechanic but my car has made the same noises. My dealerships around here suck my Aunt's hemorroidial ass!!! So I never got it fixed. Will have my belt and timing belt replaced in a few weeks. If ur problem isn't solved PM me and I'll let you know how my car is from before. Also do a search this has been covered many times before. Good luck this may help...

I'm sorry I ment to say that I will have everthing serviced - belt and timing chain. I need to for my high mileage and abuse. Just peace of mind if you ask, other than my belt.

My car has the same problem at idle. The noise goes away when I rev it up though. Anyways, I did a bit of research on this and from Satoshi's website, found the solution. He reckons that it is common problem in Celicas and he sprays lubrication onto the belt. However, I haven't had the time to do this myself yet.

I had this happen to me after warrenty exprired and it is the belt tensioner which very commonly goes, I had it done at a knowledgable local mechanic and he charged me 275 for whole deal (labor+ new tensioner+ "premium" replacement belt)
Also he said as a result of it my pulley for the alternator was slightly bent. I choose to leave it be

wanted to thank you for your link - I took my car to the dealership, and they wanted to replace the tension belt and entire pulley. I almost let them do it, however, it was getting late in the work day, and I told them I'd bring it back in later. Well, the rain was gone, and everything had dried up, and no squeak... lol... ah well, getting a second opinion tomorrow at a different place. Toyota wanted $480 to fix it... and the other guy I called said that he's never heard of this issue on a car with only 38K miles. So hopefully I can call Toyota and tell them not to mess with girls (and others who are clueless when it comes to car stuff). Thanks again for your help.
