I just finished installing it and it was all good. But, if I am retarded or something. I have a GTS so 6 speed. And stock it is left and up is reverse and from neutral and forward is first and then so on. When I shift it, I go left and forward which must be reverse, then it goes back from that position and it seems that it is not shifting right...but it can't affect anything cause its the same thing as stock but with a shorter rod. So tell me, am I retarded or something or am I not shifting right? It almost seems as if I am only getting 6 full throws, reverse and 5 gears. I didn't mess anything up did i??

bought i from MVP Motorsports and I just noticed this from their site...

"This genuine TRD item works on all GT celicas. However it fits only the 2000 - May of 2001 GTS. If you have a GTS made in June or later of 2001 then please do not purchase this!"

I have a 2003 GTS, if this is true, I am gonna go berserk shocked
It fits and all but maybe thats why it doesn't shift right? i don't get how it wouldn't fit later models...anything I can do?

confused
I took mine for a test drive after I installed mine and I did not notice any major diff. Although it was a lot harder to get into reverse. Other than that it was just shorter and a tihgter fit in the gears.

I am not too sure what to do. But if you are not having any problems, then there isn't one. If you are not getting all the gears, then you should take it off. Also, if you are getting rid of it, let me know. I might think of purchasing it.

I believe the 2003 Celicas inherited the wider 2002 shift gates. The gates were made wider to prevent the misshift problem some people were having. They also retrofit 2000-2001 Celicas with the wider gates if you take it in for a blown engine or tranny work. In any case, you will have to use the stock 2003 shifter housing (the big white part) with the TRD shifter. You'll have to take the metal shifter out of the TRD housing and put it in the stock housing. This should solve your problem. If not, then I'm stumped.

So if I take out the shifter in the TRD one and put it in the stock one, it should work then? I mean the big white part actually fits but the shifting is not shifting the right gears at all. I mean, I want to know if it will work before I go ahead and try it cause if it doesn't then I have to switch everything again.

Hey man do what I did, everybody said the TRD wouldnt fit my 02 celi GTS...

Get a TWM short shifter, its cheaper(about 79 bucks), and its awesome, they also shiped very quick in my case.

http://www.twmperformance.com/

The page says it fits 2002, they probobly have updated the page yet, you have an 03 right!

well, good luck...

Sweet. I didn't know that there was actually a ss that fit 02's and 03's. I look into this one. Thanks, I am gonna try to sell this one first. Hopefully I can. I don't know if I would get a refund if I sent it back.

Umm, hate to tell you this, but you're gonna have to take your stock shifter apart for the TWM as well. The TWM doesn't come with a housing, just the shifter and related bushings/caps/pins. It is, however, shorter than the TRD...if that's what you're looking for. Just thought you should know that if you're considering the TWM because you don't want to take your stocker apart, you're going to have to anyway. Same thing with the B&M. It's really not that hard, just an extra step. You might want to consider just keeping your TRD (since you already have it) and doing all this yourself, or let Toyota do it. They will install the TRD for you.

i suggest instead of selling the trd, just take it out of the white housing, and put it in the factory housing, and swap the bushings at the bottom... it's fairly simple, and works on the 02's... I installed one on my gf's car about a month ago... it was a breeze.. just make sure you get another push nut thing that holds the metal rod in place before taking the stuff apart.

I know that the TWM shifter had to be placed where the stock goes. I looked at their install guide on their website. I already sent back the TRD so for now, I am just going to wait and get other stuff instead and pay for this body kit I just got. Thanks.
