What's the difference between strut bars and sway bars? I understand both increase handling and tighten the chasis but can you have both on the car? Or only one or the other? Just getting into suspension and I'm a bit curious what's the difference and perhaps what brands are best.

strut bars hold your struts together and stiffens the chassis so that in hard cornering the car is more stable and easier to control. Sway bars kinda do the same but ...i don't really know how to say it , i know it in my head but can't explain it for some reason. Steven, alittle help?

Well i have front and rear strut bars, and hotchkis sway bars. you can have both on the car at once, the strut bar usually mounts on or above the struts. sway bars coonect to endlinks under the car.

so one is under the car (sway) and one is above the the engine bay where you connect the suspentions (strut) rite?
EDIT: ive heard that if the car gets too stiff with sways and strut combo...the car becomes hard to turn...is that correct?

no i think that my car is pretty stiff since i have front and rear strut bars, plus sways, and coilovers. it is actually easier to turn at high speeds and is very stable at high speeds on the freeway. Easy to keep control under hard cornering

Kim how noticable was the differnece in handling? Definite visible increase while driving? I've been considering doing hotchkiss sways and some kind of struts (undecided) then save up and also do a good set of coil overs. But was wondering if I would notice any handling improvements before I do coil overs since currently my suspension is at stock.

well, it might have been just me but i couldn't notice a significant difference when i put on the strut bars, or springs( i had tien S-tech) Most people who do add strut bars and springs do say there is a difference but i could feel any, during daily driving. the sways did make regular cornering abit sharper, but just a small difference. the coilovers are great. def a good mod. i can feel differences when i change the dampening force.

All my suspension mods are not noticable unless you drive realy hard. Sometimes when i get off work late at night, i do take corners really hard and power slide. that's when i notice them cause they make it easier to turn and harder to lose control.

From TRD USA

Sway Bars - Performance sway bars provide the most significant upgrade in suspension handling per dollar than virtually any other suspension modification available. Stock sway bars are a good compromise for everyday driving conditions, but for performance driving, they are simply not stiff enough. Stiffer sway bars provide increased roll stiffness, reducing body roll for improved handling and steering response. TRD sway bars range from 25 to 100 percent stiffer than stock. The result is improved traction and more controlled turns without compromising ride quality. TRD has both front and rear sway bars available depending on application. Stiffer bracket bushings are also included in some sets.

i have the hotchkis sways, they make the car turnnn, you will never lift the inside tire with the stock sways, i took off my front strut bar when i was gettin a noise from the front, it was not the strut bar, but i have not gotten around to putting it back. the sway bars are a much more noticeable improvement, but also a more expensive one
