I bought a used Celica GTS, so I wouldn't know if the lift bolts were broken or not. How can you tell? Can I check them myself or do I have to go to a dealer. Also how much does it cost to get them replaced? Yes I'm full of questions. But I would appreciate any feedback.

The only sure fire way to tell if they're broken is to take your valve cover off and to check for yourself by removing them. There are 2 of them, 1 for the intake and 1 for the exhaust. It is the intake bolt that breaks so check it out ASAP.

here's a link to the TSB: http://www.c7performance.com/liftbolts.pdf it tells you the procedure to replace broken lift bolts. same procedures if it's not broken, just skip the other steps.

thanks element & Steven. I heard replacing your lift bolts is like a 5 hour job. If so can I take this on myself with the directions given on the link.

if it's broken you will have to follow all the instructions to remove the broken bolt. if they're not broken, you simply remove and replace the worn bolts. this won't take that long, maybe an hour or 2 if you're mechanically inclined.

03 models have the newer style bolts, but you should probably change them once a while just to be safe. you should change them around every 20,000 to 30,000 miles, or sooner.

If I get new bolts from the dealer will they break again after a certain amount of miles because I have seen a group buy from one of the members for lift bolts. Are all the same quality or do some wear better than others?
