a very unrealistic concept if you ask me. doubt it will ever make it into the market.

which brings up the question: why waste $$ on useless concepts? love japanese imports, but they do make a lot of very weird concept cars...

I don't even consider them as an Japanese import. They're pretty much Americanized Japanese wanna-be imports.

They suck over in Japan and you rarely see them on the streets. Same goes with the GTO (3000GT). The only Mitsubishi running is pretty much the Evolutions.

IMO, the willingness of the Japanese to explore all these weird concepts is what makes them so great. You get a lot of crazy stuff out of concepts. Some are complete duds but some are the beginnings of good ideas.

These weird concepts are what give the Japanese auto makers momentum for their designs which results in "progress". I guess what I am trying to say is that if it weren't for all these strange concept vehicles, Japanese companies might find themselves retro styling their vehicals 25 years from now in a desperate attempt to revitalize their line up, which is exactly what all the domestic companies are currently trying to do. smile

that is a good point. but i'm also sure that many american car company's come up with weird designs..they just don't waste $$ on actually making the concepts which showcase absolutely no credibility in the marketplace.

an example of a useless concept thats nothing but wasted $$: the isuzu zen (sadly, too many japanese concepts or more or less the same...head scratching)

I definitly see your point sPeEd4tHeNeEd, and it is a very good one, but I think that the problem with it is that you are only looking at the concepts from the marketability perspective of an American.

I agree with you 100% that these strange pod concepts will probably never be used in the United States, but that Isuzu concept would not look out of place on the streets of Europe. I recently made a trip to Switzerland and Germany which allowed me to witness first hand the obstacles that auto manufacturers need to over come to bring viable products to the consumer.

People are traveling on roads in Europe that were built before the invention of the automobile, which means that they are extremely narrow. All of the Cities I went to did not allow automobiles to be used on the city streets because the streets were not big enough to accommodate pedestrians and vehicles. The incredibly small vehicles like the Isuzu that you posted, would often have at least some access to a bunch of the roads in the city, which makes them desirable to the people who live there. There are tons of those kinds of ugly, tiny, two person cars like that driving around in Europe. wink

a good point indeed. guess i am a bit too americanized. but hey..if that sells in europe they ought to bring it to new orleans...almost all of our streets are one ways because they were made before automobiles were invented also. used to be just horse & buggy both ways, now its cramped cramped cramped. i feel sorry for the tourists..no telling how many tickets are given during mardi gras because everything is all one ways..

the celica was a concept car at one point.

You have to make concepts and ideas to make new cars.

BTW, the reason most cars don't make it to production is because of STRINGENT government safety laws and regulations.

They'd like to have everyone driving a standard issue, government model transportation unit.

Boo!

true, but i wasnt bashing concept cars. i was bashing impractical concept cars that even the manufacturer knows will not make it into the marketplace. concepts are necessary, vague ideas put down into a show vehicle are not.

I agree, most concept cars I have seen have a lot of differences from what the production model looks like.
