Ok, I blew my GT 5 SPD transmission. And I was wondering since I'm hoping to have turbo by end of summer. How hard would it be to swap in a 6 spd tranny from GTS or stick with another 5 spd?

It won't be hard, but it will cost you a pretty penny

How did you manage that? I have a friend that downshifted from 5th to second @ 90mph, and bent 14 valves and spun bearings on 3 cylinders... and his tranny wasn't effected at all... I thought that the 5spd in the GT was virtually indestructable. I would stick with the 5spd, because there have been some cases of the early generation 6spd trannies (2000- 2002) shredding themselves when subjected to more than 280 HP. This could especially be a concern of yours, because I think that the GT motor is capable of producing more torque than the GTS with a forced induction system. (correct me if i'm wrong people)

I was under the impression that the bore/stroke ratio determined the torque capability of an engine, which, while the 1zz and 2zz have the same displacement, they have a different bore/stroke ratio. I could be wrong, this is now my field of extreme expertise.

The europe & jap spec celica GT have a 6 speed tranny. But I don't know if it is the same as the GTS one. But if it is, it will be easy to fit a 6 speed. Don't know about problems with the 6 speed??? Haven't had any problems so far

Hmm I've not heard of any 6spd trannys taking a dive because of turbos.from what I understand they are good for 300hp or so.

well I been looking at the turbo kits and I might go for internals as well. Which would more than likely put me at 300+ hp. I was also kind of hoping for a 2003-2004 GTS to break down and I get lucky and buy his tranny . Anyone done the 5-6spd tranny swap? While keeping the 1zz?

While keeping the 1zz? maybe this doesnt apply..but rod millen had a hard time putting a 6-speed tranny in the original 5-speed is300. just an opinion..but if rod millen said it was difficult..good luck also good luck on getting 300 horses out of a gt with a turbo...what internals are you planning? that is very, VERY difficult to do. (but yeah..its possible)
