AAMCO or Toyota Dealership for transmission repair? I've been having trouble shifted into and out of gears smoothly and with little effort. What's the better shop? What's better for the money? Should I get estimates? Thanks!

I would go to AAMCO or even a small privatly owned shop around you. Small shops do as good of work as toyota. Also always offer to pay cash and see if they will knock down the price.

Maybe not save you money at aamco but little privatly owned shops will give you a deal if you pay cash because they just pocket the money they dont have to report it or anything.

actually ur right. but when they do that, then you wont get a repair invoice. so if anything happens (proof that something was done on the car), you wont have any. you cant go against the place if something wrong with it, they can deny they did work on ur car. they wont have a record, and you wont have a proof. in other words, you wont have insurance, or warranty, or whatever, you get the point...

In regards to your CAI and voiding the warranty...As long as your CAI is a recognized product for Toyota it will NOT void your car's warranty... It is against the law for Toyota to void the warranty for after-market modifications.

Check with your local Mod Shop. They should have a copy of the law for you.

Peace out thumbsup

I have a Horror story when it comes to my local aamco, I took in my older car (a 93 probe .. yea yea I know beinng a FORD says it all) It was an automatic, they charged me over $3,000 dollars to rebuild my tranny. It took them almost 3 weeks and to top it of they cracked my back bumper and broke 6 peices off my side skirt taking it off the ramp. angry (didn't tell me about it until after I payed them and as I was pulling away.) Then it took them over a month to fix the body damge they cuased. thumbsdown If you have a warranty go toyota, but it you go to aamco make sure you run them by your local BBB.

jsut remember if you go to aamco or a small shop that they use the correct parts. i know i had my tranny flushed by our family's mechanic. he did a great job at doing the flsuh. the only thing he did wrong was that my (mitsubishi) works the best with a specially fomulated tranny fluid. and well, he didn't use that. he just used the regular stuff. the car stil ran but the shifts weren't as crisp as they would be with the special mitsubishi fluid.

Thanks everyone. Tomorrow I will try that white grease. I hope I spray the right parts. Anything else besides the photos that I should lube? Thanks.

Well, I did this and the shifting is a little smoother, but I'm still having a real hard time sometimes pulling out of 1st gear. Any thoughts?
