it just good that it wasn't "excess of 100mph" written on the ticket - then you would have been facing 7+ years on your license and super high car ins. mine skipped up to $5,600/year, but it was the last traffic ticket I ever got - over 2 years ago.

Yea, $5600/year was what AAA kicked me to ... from $1400/year

...

Drive safely - watch a few "dumbest drivers" & "cop chase" videos on the Discovery/Learning Channel and you will never drive fast ever again on anything other than a controlled stretch/race track... thats some realistically scary shit right there eek

Im glad there are laws that keep people from driving like idiots thumbsup
but its not cool when those laws are abused by the few who give out "fraudulent"/"exaggerated" tickets thumbsdown

I have to go to pre-trial today @ 2 PM. The State of Florida is suing me over unpaid tolls. Damn this SunPass!

This is why you just need to chill on the highways.

Generally speaking, it's okay to do 5-6 MPH over the limit if you are alone, since this is the "1 point" category. Anything over 9MPH, and you are in the "2 point" category and cops want that because of the higher fine. It's not really worth their time for 1 point tickets, because most likely the judge will drop the ticket, since 5 mph can be argued in the accuracy of your speedometer/radar guns.

However, if you are driving with traffic, you are likely to be able to do 10-15 over as long as there are people around you. If you have a flashy car, body kit, exhaust, rims, riced out spoiler, then you will be picked out of the pack and pulled over.

These don't apply all the time, but I've driven on lots of highways at high speed for extended periods of time (110-130 for hours at a time)

It can be safe, and law-man free if you spot. Radar/laser works on line of sight, and if you can't see more than 3/4 of a mile downrange, DO NOT SPEED. Radar guns are good to about 2400FT, laser too. Also, keep your eyes peeled for cruisers in traffic and hiding in dicky pits, those median turn arounds, and bridges and whatnot.

Also, at night, don't drive more than 10 over, because you can't see well enough, which is a safety hazard.

You should be 100% watchful if you are driving at high speeds.

When I say high speeds, I mean over 100mph.

Don't be eating, drinking, dozing off. One 100+ ticket, and as Isaac said before, 7 years on your license and lots of insurance hikes frown

i usually do 5mph over in everyday driving (speed limits of less than 60 mph) and 10 mph on highway driving (speed limits of 60 or more) never have even gotten pulled over for speeding yet in about 4 years of driving. (not that 4 years is a LOT, but i can only be so old haha)

that said...my mom is a scopist (they transcipe what a court reporter types in their stenomachines) and she's seen ppl convicted of speeding going only 26mph in a 25mph zone..so whatever. haha the guy was cocky though.
