I have to 12" JL audio W6's ... I only have a 600watt amp to both subs right now. I've heard this can damage them somehow by being so underpowered. Anyone know how true that is, if at all?

This is what I understand

The risk of blowing your speakers with an underpowered amp is because you will probably turn it up too loud.

Doing that will distort the audio signal which in turn will make the normal + to - swap (sub goes in and out) to a constant + or -. This keeps your speakers all the way in or out, causing it to blow.

Somebody might have to confirm this.
