on sunset, i am driving and a friend of mine is on the other lane. we are driving right by each other at the speed limit or a little less. i dont know about it but my friend from the other car tells me theres a cop behind me. im like so? wut am i doing wrong to get pulled over? window down cruising? well picking up bitches their my friends, and the area were at theres nothing about cruising so im not worried at all. 5 seconds later, light is on me and i pull over in less than 2 seconds. cop comes, wheres ur seatbelt? i told em i just left the strip club a block down and going to drop my friends car down here. have you been drinking? NO! ok gimme license and registration. i didnt think i was gonna get a ticket since my record is already clean, fucker comes back with the ticket. now im in the car reading the ticket and putting my wallet back in my pocket and registration back to its place, mother fucker starts yelling my name MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE. when im done my friend calls me and informs me that the guy was a highway patrol. do they have the right to give tickets on the streets? according to my friend, the cop was behind me for a lil while and the reason he pulled me over is cz he got pissed. me and my friend were going the speed limit while this fucker wanted to get to the freeway a second earlier. i could have worn my belt in the instant when he was coming to my car but i thought he saw me from outside with no seatbelt or another cop was in the car. basically he just wanted to rip me off just because i was going the speed limit. IMO, seat belt ticket should be banned! FUCK THAT! you dont wear a seatbelt, ur bad ur loss and ull die in an accident. i mean its not a big deal that its only 40$ and no points at all, but it just pissed me off when i didnt really do anything wrong. 3 months ago a cop hit my car while busting a you turn with his lights off and from the wrong lane breaking over 50 laws and i could have sued his ass and got money but i was nice enough to say i was ok which i was. i guess i learned from my mistake, jsut ripping off somehow, i just hope a cop hits me again and then im gonan make the whole case a fuckin holocaust story.

p.s. damn i wrote long

Not Cool

probably yea sorry but a little in a bad mood. but you get the point you know. seatbelt will harm the driver, if they dont want to wear it their risking their life, but not others. in a way, their like getting into my business you know leave me alone im not harming noone and dont find a bs excuse to get money off me. i believe my friend when he said the reason i got pulled over is basically he got mad cz i wasnt giving him way and i was going normal speed while he was gunning it and tailgating me. after the ticket he passed by me like a bitch gunned it all the way and then braked as a fucker when entering the freeway bcz there was a car infront of it going real slow. i admit it though, at least its sunset and i shouldve wear a belt i usually do but i guess i forgot. and sunset cops are never nice (duh)
im not bitching about the 40$ at all, but i am about the cop being an asshole. i just didnt wanna talk or argue cz i knew i was into something small and didnt really wanna ruin my mood, and didnt. now i thought of it and its just stupid.

that sucks bro! but it really depends on what kind of street it is that determines if the highway patrol can pull you over...around here there are a few local streets the highway patrols are allowd some jurisdiction. in my neighborhood, though..they are not allowed jurisdiction...unlesss of course your driving crazy and realistically NEED to be pulled over..then they can request (and most likely obtain) permission to ticket you.

ridiculous was when he pulled me over. it was on a street that you can get the freeway on. hell it was sunset. but is it worth the time to pull over someone for a seat belt? who gets that kinda ticket nowadays? ive got pulled over twice, once for speeding 60 at 40 i didnt get a ticket(i talked nice and i explained him the laws of what i did comparing it with the law and admitted i was going fast but not that fast) cop was nice enough to let me go. another time driving on the other side of the lane, meaning going the wrong direction, cop just busts me and i apologize and i thought the street was one way. for a stupid shit like this though come on. i was going the speed limit or maybe a little less which is right. anyways i gotta stop talkin... i was lucky twice and lucky the third time to get a ticket for bs i guess.

^^yeah bro..it does suck..but around here seatbelt tickets are VERY common and are enforced. if you were wrong, then just be glad you only got a $25 or $50 seatbelt ticket instead of a 20+mph speeding ticket (around here that translates inot about $250-$300).

and here...if the street leads to a highway/freeway..its usually considerred a local highway itself and highway patrols are allowed to pull you over...although usually they focus mainly on the main highway/freeway itself.

but it doesnt hurt to call and ask to see if they have jurisdiction. be sure you have the name of the intersection with you (should be on your ticket) and call your local authorities and maybe the highway patrol itself. to me..a phone call is worth $25 and definately worth $50...you don't have anything to lose.

damn, pointless ticket.

I don't understand why people don't wear their seatbelt, it takes like 2 seconds and it will save your life in a crash.

First mistake: cruising on Sunset.

There are more cops (LAPD, LASD, CHP) on that street than anywhere in So Cal.

Second mistake: giving them an excuse to pull you over.

Be smart next time.

ok bro i just forgot to wear it at the time. i know that a lot of cops at sunset and all that ur right, but first i wasnt crusing at all. the law crusing applies to the crowded place where all the clubs at, i was at the death end of sunset where the freeway is and theres no crowd. he couldnt give me ticket for that and everytime i goto sunset i wear seatbelt and windows up so fuckers wont pull over for crusing. btw r you sure it goes in ur record? i asked the cop if it does he said no

Check your citation. If there's an "X" in the checkbox next to "Yes" under "Dismissable" then it won't go on your record. If the officer checked "No" then you're SOL.

For sure, mang...maybe I resent the cops who seem like a**holes and enjoy giving out tickets...but they're just doing their job and trying to keep the streets safe.

One of those, if you speed, he'll pull you over, if you go the limit, he'll pull you over, sort it out in court and don't let it get to you.

it shouldn't be that expensive for a first time offense. and it does go on your record--but its a 'nonmoving violation'--meaning your insurane will not take not of it and raise your rates.

Couple of years ago, I was on a dead stop with all the other cars on the 110 FWY in L.A. CHP got out of his car, started walking between cars in traffic sitting still and began handing out tickets for not wearing seatbelts. I saw him give out 2 other tickets to other drivers. There must have been an accident somewhere up ahead because none of us were moving. No that to me, does not make sense except that he had nothng to do and probably really heates his job.

Wow seatbelt laws are strickt in Cali. Here the seatbelt tickt has to be a tag-along. you cant get one unless you are breaking another law. I say take it to court and fight it out. How did he know if he was behind you that you didnt have your seatbelt on especially at night??? oh yea and WEAR THE DAMN THING YOU JACKASS!!!
