I want to get 18's but I've read that you have to take care of the transmission if you get 18's. How exactly do I go about doing this. Am I going to have to get a new transmission down the road. Thanks

I don't know why 18" rims would affect your transmission at all.

It can, depending on the weight of the rims put more stress on the tranny, just by creating more rotational inertia. It's not really that big of a deal, though. The only real problems you might encounter, is that heavy rims increase your braking distance, and I assume that you'll be putting some timres on that have good traction. This can put some added strain on your clutch, because in hard launches, your cluth may be more likely to slip than the tires will be to spin.

please do not listen to anyone who says "18's will not stress your tranny"--completely false.
as mentioned above, almost all 18" rims are extremeley heavy (some are exceptions). because of this it takes X amount of extra power to turn the wheels--which adds stress. if you get 18s you will DEFINATELY need to take care of your tranny. don't miss checkups, oil after 3000 miles every 3000 miles, do NOT let your transmission fluid run low, etc.
18s look very nice--but they can DEFINATELY cause death to your tranny if you don't take good care of it.
