Heres my problem... for a while my speedometer would start messing up like when i was going 65 it would go from 55 to 75 and then just drop to zero. then it happened all the time after driving for like 5 mins and now it doesnt move at all and my check engine light came on. this all started after i got my engine fixed after a misshift. anybody have any ideas?
Yeah, doesn't sound that good. If you just got your engine fixed I would take your car back. I know you probably don't want to hear that. You shouldn't have problems like that if they did fix it properly.
i donno if it's ur engine. i think it might be the speedometer, because my physics teacher said that seedometer work with magnets and electricty. so just goto toyota and get it fixed if you have warrenty.
if i'm correct there is a speed sensor on the right rear wheel. Take that in soon as possible, or not and use it as a reason to get out of a speeding ticket, lol.
i basically had a new engine put in my car and next thing to go wrong was the speedo. It went weird like yours and then eventually nothing. It ended up needing a new "transmission speed sensor" cost me $550CDN. I drive a 6spd GTS
The gauges on the Celica's are all electronically driven; therefore it is entirely possible that when whomever serviced your car, did somthing that interfered with the speedometer's circuit. (Ex. Short circuit, double ground, pinched/cut wire. Etc.) It's also possible that it's none of the above. One thing you might be able to try before servicing it would be to disconnect you car battery and let it sit for a few minutes to reset the entire ECU and main harness.

Knowing the path and choosing the path are two different things.
