I have been reading a lot of the forum post and replies
Question because im in the proses in buy a gts 6 spd
Great looking cars BUT can you make them go fast?
Now I know you can make anything go fast if you drop 20 g's
but im talking about some bolt ons like nos and Turbo being the most.

turbo + PFC + good tires = low 13 high 12 second car if driven right... it is possible to go faster with higher boost levels and internals ect...


just looking at the three mods i listed is about 8 grand installed.

turbo by strafford fab on gts is around 250whp...on a 2600 lbs. car...that is fast!

yeah dude, if you get a gts with a Turbo, it gonna fly...there is a guy on her with a basically stock GTS and an apexi power fc that runs mid 13's...so yeah, it would be pretty fast

It says its for the 2000+ celica...I wonder if it will work for the '03+ as well because of the Drive by Wire.

Im sure it would since the drive by wire affects the throttle body...and you aren't changing out the throttle body with the Turbo kit

Thats cool, I know they were having trouble with some Turbos and the drive by wire not being compatible.

I was in the local car audio shop today (Beam Riders) and we were briefly talking about Celica's and one of the guys said Toyota has and was possibly selling a seventh gen. for $60 000 (not sure if that was USD or Cnd.) and it had around 300hp or more and it was NA!!

I didn't think to ask where he heard the info from, but I am pretty curious now and maybe I'll ask tomorrow if I recall because I have an appointment with them to take a look at my subs.

Get a GT, throw in a Turbo, (maybe PFC not sure how well they work on 1zz), and a 6 speed transission thumbsup

Turbo GT will take a Turbo GTS. GT is much more FI friendly.

You are right, but if we go back to a stock GT...and a stock GTS, slap on a Turbo on each, even though the GT can handle more boost, it is still missing lift. Now from there, if you treated modifying each car equally, ie: you each mod you do to the GT, you do to the GTS. The GTS will still come out on top due to it having lift. Though, you are correct about the GT having a better torque curve.

Oh top end would still definately be the GTS' strong point, and the down low would still be the GT's. But I just wonder if what the GT gains down low would be enough to make up for it in the 1/4...Hmmm. have there been any race results of a GT and GTS Turbo against one another? I would be interested to see. Thanks LostAngel smile

hmmm...that is a good question...though I do think the GTS would still have the upper hand for one reason, the GT would only be in the low rpm's for maybe 2-3 seconds..after that, your shifting at the higher rpms. Thats where the GTS' sweet spot is.

Quite possible with the 3zz engine. I don't see why not. Especially if that figure is from the flywheel and not the wheels.

not even.
one of the guy with Intake, unbolted exhaust and power fc ran 13.7 in 1/4 mile. thats only like 1200 dollar investment.

As a novice with cars.. It seems from what you guys are saying ^^^ is that the GT is better at low end torque and the GTS if both have the Turbo correct??

Because in the future I want to trade/sell my auto GT for a stick GTS. I want more low end torque so a GT will be better it seems?? confused

dealing with the stafford fabrications kit the GTS dynoes at 241whp and 170wtq at 8psi, the GT at 8psi also dynoed at 233whp not sure of torque though, but im pretty sure it was higher than 170, so i dont know, but 8whp isn't a huge difference at same psi, but the gt at 12psi dynoed at 255whp and 225wtq something along those lines

Drive by wire means the accelerator isn't mechanically linked to the engine. When you 'step on the gas' you're really telling a sensor what you want and it relays the info to the engine-control computer. Happens so fast you don't perceive a delay. In fact, the time it takes a throttle cable to move and open a butterfly valve probably is longer than the time it takes the 'by wire' system to respond. It's more precise, which automakers need to meet tightening emissions standards. It's quieter and smoother-acting. It eliminates a hole through the firewall where noise and dirt and too-cold or too-hot air can enter the passenger compartment.

It depends, if you are going to race, the GTS is better because when your racing, your mostly at the higher rpms's, where the GTS loves being. Its all personal preference. A lot of people like the torque curve of the GT, but a lot like the sudden rush of hitting lift.

.. for those who repsonded to my reply about the 300hp NA 7th gen.

Yeah I don't know how that number would be possible either, I would think a 3sgte swap or there was just talk about taking the 2zz-ge and doing a major port & polish and other things like that. I'd say it's possible some way or another with the 2zz-ge.. obviously very expensive, but that's wy it's $60k!

Ok I drive a 5 speed mustang and anyone that has been in a 5.0 knows that when you shift it can through you back on your seat I want that with the celica, I want to be able not only to smoke the people that think im an idiot for going with an import in looks but speed.

so what is the problem with having the drive by wire when wanting to boost the celica? i would think having the drive by wire would be better confused i love this site... its so helpful!! thumbsup

The reason is because of the extra wiring...and there's only like 3 that go into the ecu if i remember correctly...it's not too much difficult to make a kit for it from what i've read.
It might also be due to not having a throttle cable.

I have an auto 2004 GT. I am installing a Turbo w/nos, but if that is not the answer to speed, I have learned the best way to go is build a 3/7 cast iron motor. it is the strongest motor toyota built. I am looking at reprograming my auto trans w/limmited slip Dif, and tiptronics. If not happy, will just go with the 6 spd trans. Will report back on results. I expect to do all this within the next 90 days. stay tuned!!

staffords gts put down 180 wtq wink I always forget what the gt put down cause it doesnt pertain to me. lol I can find out though.

staffords kit I'm pretty sure is still the only kit that will work with the 03's and the DBW. It's way better/reliable then the XS kit and is less expensive as well.

I know the stafford guys pretty well now and after playing with their setup and being able to help tune my teamates on the dyno I have a lot of respect for that kit. They are really cool guys to work with and I always reccomend their kit cause I know it can produce some great numbers. smile my teamate will be hitting the track tomorrow night so we'll see how he does. he ran 13.8 full interior untuned and on 6 lbs of boost smile I expect he'll be around 13.6 even at LACR which is about 3,000 ft elevation wink 13.3's at a sea level track.

<---I would be the 13.7 n/a celica smile and yeah including my dr's it was less then $1700 in mods thumbsup

not really recommend but an easy way to lower your CR is to double up or find a thicker head gasket.
