Sometimes when I lock/unlock the car (with either the remote or the key), the running lights flash briefly, and the car honks for about a half-second. What causes it to honk, and how can I make it not honk? (It only does the honk thing sometimes, the lights always flash, which is all I want it to do.) Thanks!

I've only been hitting it once. I hit unlock twice (to unlock all the doors). Sometimes it honks, sometimes not...
I have an '04 GTS, by the way. No aftermarket parts.

the honking means you have a security system the lights flash also to tell you when you unlock or lock the car, mine does that... but doesn't honk cause i don't have security system i think i'm right

Ahh. So maybe if I hit the little button on the back of the red light inside the car, that will keep the alarm from arming (when I don't want it to)? Gotta run right now, be back in a few hours. Thank you folks

I looked for it in the manual last night, but it didn't mention any honking, or alarm systems. It said that the lights should flash for the keyless thing, but nothing else. Mainly just trying to find out how to disable it, it's damned annoying

I have a security system and no honking.
I thought that honking means that there is no security system, and that the car just has remote keyless entry???
My girlfriend's Civic does the honking thing. No security system, just remote keyless entry.
I'm pretty sure that honking means that you only have remote keyless entry.

Yeah. Except Toyota is rather far away I'll just call 'em tomorow and ask 'em to give me the info about the alarm, so I can figure out all the bells and whistles. I gave them all my money, they can help me out ;P

The car shouldn't honk when armed/disarmed, it should just give off a short beep. Once for arming, twice for disarming, and a continuous beep when the car isn't locked properly.

That's what I thought. I thought remote keyless without a security system only honks. Hold true for other makes than Honda.

I haven't heard any type of beeps from the car...
The alarm is the black box type deal with the red light on it (stuck to the underside of the dash on the driver's side), right?

Ok. I'm pretty sure it's not the wireless entry system, because it's happened when I opened up the door with the key, or even the door lock button inside...

I took my Celi to the dealer to ask why it doesn't honk or beep. They were digging through the manual swearing there was a way to enable it, half hour passes and they finally decided the 03's don't honk/beep.
I dunno...

Ah-ha! I found it I laid down on my back to look up under the driver's side dash, and found the little button that says SILENCER. Now it does the short beep for arming, and beep-beep for disarming. Excellent!

Just a way for the driver to make sure that the car is locked since most people walk away while arming/locking their car.

Yeah. It's on the back of the tube, at the opposite end as the light. Tube is probably around an inch long.

Yea that happens to me too, When I lock me car i hear 3 honks then when I unlock it it honks only twice. you can probably disconnect it from the horn. But I like it because you can hear it from far away if you forgot where you parked..
