I was thinking about getting the TRD shock and spring kit but now I am leaning more toward Tokico. But yet again I don't know anything about there reputation.

I did a search and it seems Glitch is the only member that has the Tokico kit, I have sent him a PM.

Does anyone else know about this kit? What the ride is like? Are the parts quality? Any camber issues? Any help would be great, thanks. thumbsup

I've heard good things about Tokico, but I'm sure that TRD would be better.

Tony and Trog,

I have read on carreview.com that both KYB and Tokico have very stiff rides and fail before there even a year old.

I take it this has not been the case for either of you?

Nope. The stiffness comes from the springs. The Tokico rides similar to stock, IMO. I haven't had the shock for long time. So, I can't really answer the second part of your question. Only time will tell, i guess.

And how long a shock lasts also depends on the way you drive and your other suspension components.

A "little rough" is fine but I don't want my teeth knocked out and my kidneys sore.

Thats cool Tony, sounds like the Tokico kit is not the way to go. The Tokico springs may be why people don't like the ride.

Think I'm going for Eibach Prokit on Tokico or KYB.

Well the roughness is gonna be determined by ur springs...The hotchkis are pretty rough...i guess it depends on the roads around u...Pittsburgh roads suck thumbsdown grin

One other question for everyone, who is the company behind TRDs shocks?

I know Eibach makes the springs but I don't know who makes the shocks.

You can't adjust, right? So that would make them KYB GR2s.

How do you like the ride CT, had any problems?

well as far as problems my last ones lasted 3 months...lol! but i got it replaced under warrany...the ride is great. if you're a hard-core auto-xer then this is not for you. if you like a daily driver but like to pull the corners hard now and then...this is definatley for you. slap sum trd springs on this and it corners like a mo-fo (trd spring and strut combo was the set up used at the road and track desert showdown article). the ride is stiffer but not much...(my gf hardly noticed when i didn't tell her i changed to trd). i suggest the trd strut and spring combo (500 even at northridge toyota..ask for carrie)...but if i had to do it all over again i would go with kyb agx (just because it's more versitile) with trd springs. thumbsup

Thanks CT, your right I don't Auto X so I think I will get the GR2s. Daily driver with a little more pep is just what the doctor ordered.

The only problems I could find with the KYB GR2s are from dip shits that used them with a drop more than 1.5", they will leak and handle like shit. There dip shits because KYB tells you not to use them with lower drops for that very reason.

this is a great deal on AGX

http://titanmotorsports.com/kybagxsupa.html

... i seriously reccomend this . plus it's cheaper than trd struts which will cost you 450 easy...and you never know, you may take auto-x someday...i hear it's really addicting. thumbsup

I have the tokico shocks with the Hotchkis springs. No complaints at all.
Of course the ride will be more rough because of the springs, and will also be more rough on rougher roads, but thats the price you have to pay.

Seems like either way Tokico or KYB I should do fine.

But let me ask about springs now, Tein S.Tech or Eibach Pro kit? I know that Eibach is a great company so the question is not really there, but I know nada about Tein.

Are the Tein S.Tech on par with Eibach or what? Any help would be awesome.

just keep in mind that you want progressive rate spings and not linear since you want a daily driver. i hear hotchkis is progressive and trd/eibach pro are too...these are your best bet. but know that hotchkis drops 1-7/8 to 1-3/4" rear so you wil have to put in struts that will accomodate this. teins are great but many have had complaints of popping noises (or noises in general) when putting them on...again this may be subject to the install and not the springs themselves. tein s will drop around 1.4-1.5.

in my opinion you should go for the trd springs 160 new plus kyb agx 360 new...great combo
