i heard that that new TC scion is supposed to be the celi's replacement. I have the last gen celica and i love it, but my mom just bought a TC yesterday and its actually not too bad. Its not as fast or good handling as the celica but its a real smooth drive and you can still have fun in it. I dont mind the scions, but i would never give up my celi for one.

You know, there's a difference between the super cars that the supra were, and the scaled down 7th gen (compared to the super cars the GT4s were)

it means no more celicas for now -- period. no continuation of 7th gens, no making of the 8th gen.

*hugs his '04 Celi* smile

I still like Toyota vehicles. If I were to be able to buy another car, I want one of the later gen twin Turbo Supras smile

I'm sure there will be something else by the time I can afford another car (or even the one I have!). Whether it's Toyota or not tongue

that's weird since almost all car companies have sports cars, what will toyota have? i think it it's a very bad move for toyota. i mean they don't have the supra anymore, and they're killing both the MR-S and the Celica at the same time. Don't tell me they're gonna make the Camry Solara their sports car. thumbsdown

I know they still offer parts I use too own a set of Supras, a '86.5 and '87 MkIII's spineyes ...I meant getting them would be hard (nothing about finding them) because there is this wonderful thing called a BackOrder...and it usually took 3-7 days depending on the part and they were usually a tad bit more expensive. Most of my Supra parts came from the Canadian warehouse, its pretty far from TX laughsilly

word...both the MRS and Celica are being killed off.

what does Toyota have left to be in their sporty section?
please not the Solara or any of the Scions. Prolly the Elise.

The car being D/C is really having an impact on what I'm looking at right now. In 3-4 weeks I'll be in the car market again, and I just don't know about buying a car no longer in production. idunno

It is indeed a sad day. Toyota has decided to give up rather than bettering it's enthusiast vehicles to compete with Subaru, Mitsubishi, Mazda, and Honda. Lets face it, the MR2 and Celica were no match for the S2000 or STI. Most young people are looking at speed and Performance over styling these days, and Toyota was slipping. They could have stepped it up, but instead they decided to just focus on other markets. thumbsdown

It's rather amusing the anger and disappointed directed towards Toyota.. they obviously know what they are doing, there is no doubt a method behind their madness. I had read a year or so ago that the sales for the Celica have been dropping and they were going to discontinue the car, people are lucky that the Celica was even produced for '05 models.. it was going to be a '04 and quits.

This doesn't bother me in the slightest, I've actually been hoping for this, mostly because I want to say my car is still new for what it is and now I can still say that. And hopefully the resale value will go up for some reason, despite our cars being underpowered.. they have their advantage points.

Besides.. this doesn't mean they will never produce the MR2 or Celica again ever, they stopped making the MR2 for about five years or so, and there may be hope for new better Celica's, MR2's and even Supra's.

It's not that toyota doesn't know what they are doing, it's that they're taking the entire company's focus away from where we want it to be focused.. thats smart business, but it saddens us

thumbsup for all WRX fans grin

ok anway, a lot of you guys gotta set some shit straight

the Scions are NOT replacing the celica or mr2..
"tC" does not stand for "Toyota Celica"

the last production of the celica will be
May 2005
so, there is a little less than a year left before they stop it all together, as well as the mr2.
they aren't being imported here as much though till that time comes and then it stops...

plus, yes they could both come back later on, but Toyota will have "exciting new vehicles" to be introduced to take the spots those two cars once had. Most likely better.

hey, this is probaly a sign of things to come within the auto industry. the inevitable drying up of oil supplies and the transition to hybrid cars.

we are probably the last generation to enjoy the "sport" car saga. look at how we've changed from muscle cars that have just huge brute engines to smaller smarter sport compacts that are faster and more efficient.

the next generation will probably have stuff like prius and maybe other fuel sourced vehicles.

finally the end of SUVs will occur...

mmhmmmmm and just when i posted it, that morning i read the document sent to my dad regarding it which said the dicontinuation of each and the last production of them...but nothing about new stuff yet, only that the current stuff is there to have (Corolla XRS, Scions, X-Runner) for now.

Toyota is going to turn into a weird, kooky, environmentally friendly eco-car company.

And the Avalon. Betting my buddy (works for Toyota) that the smart money is on sport compacts. Something along the lines of the Mazda3 Hatchback as being one of the two designs they may try. Makes sense, hope they get it right.
Would people seriously be pissed if someone re-badged a Scion TC as a Celica? Not that it applies to me, we don't get Scion here. Dammit.

I knew this was going to happen. The lack of advertising and development for the last 4 years did not help things. For a company that makes such good cars, this is a step back. Hopefully Toyota will lear the error of its ways.

As I haven't seen a TV commercial for either the Celica or the MR. 2 in years this is not a surprise. No support or development equals no sales. All Toyota had to do was drop a 240 HP engine into the Celica to keep up with the stock Rex, The Celica owns the Rex when it comes to handling. Toyota has its own vision of the future, and it does not include Celica or Mr. 2 In five or ten years they will realise the error of their ways,

there's a reason behind no advertising and lack of it, you need to learn what else is going on and what they spend their money on

toyota is somewhat smart in discontinuing the celica. With all these fast cars coming up, the celi wont stand a chance. It's just going to hurt sales. I'm glad that its offical that the 8th generation celi is dead so our value will stay a bit higher.

having less celicas on the road makes owning a celica more exciting. I mean it wouldn't be any fun if everyone you knew drove a celica, and if at every stoplight you saw someone with your car. Its fun knowing your car is kinda rare, not like a civic, or camero, or mustang. Toyota is changing to "family car" and unless they bring the supra back i don't plan on buying a toyota for my next car.

I'm thinking that Toyota probably did advertise the Celica and MR-2 (in the early years), but sales were still slumping. So, why should Toyota waste more money on advertising these two cars when they could focus on other cars? Toyota would not simply discontinue the Celica after 30-plus for no apparent reason.
