Has anyone ever had any trouble with the sunroof not opening fully? I think mine is only opening about 80%. I'm looking for a picture of a full open sunroof for comparision.

Something jammed in the rails. Inspect it I have the toyota sunroof and it slides all the way you can even tilt it more at full slide. Sometimes it would get stuck for no reason tho but once you push the button again or hold it for 2 seconds it'll move. Mine got stuck halfway when trying to auto open it with the 2 second hold and press mode. Had to push it a couple more times but works everytime. Happens on occasion pretty strange.

well it depends how open you want it to go, cause it doesn't open all the way back. It will look like it's still closed a bit but that's as far as it goes Edit: I can take a pic of mine when I get home if you want.

What button is "Mode"? Mine (2005) only has a forward/backward toggle type button...tried holding that for at least 2 seconds and got absolutely zero response. Does the engine need to be running? It opens about 2-3 inches and then gets stuck, so maybe i need to find out how to remove the glass so the rails are exposed...ever had to remove your glass before?

Does anyone have any tips/tricks for removing the glass if I'm pretty sure there's something stuck in the rails (like tree sap possibly). It slides back a couple of inches and then comes to a stop.
Toyota dealer wants to charge me nearly $150 just to take a look at it and diagnose it, and I feel like it'll be an easy fix once the rails are exposed.
Special tools needed? Any input is helpful... TY

Thats correct. Its a rocker 3way position switch. The forward portion towards the windshield is to close. The opposite is to open. And momentary push of either position is for slightly open or slightly close just like your side Auto window. A toggle 3way switch would be similar control either fully open or fully closed or with a quick toggle either position and back to middle would be for slight opening or manual opening or closing. Engine does not need to be running just in the on position. That controller board is just controls various positioning of the sunroof. If you get rid of it and just hardwire to a 3way toggle switch you can mimic the control of opening and closing and slight open or close. Check voltage to see if you're getting power to the wire terminals after unscrewing the controller overhead. This is a simple circuit and simple check.

That's not your rail causing it to be stuck if you were able to fully open and only gets stuck a few times. It's the control board with bad contact from the rocker push button switch. Had happened to me begore. Sometimes I can't get it to move or close from fully open position. Had to push hard on the button. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. By pass the board and hardwire to a toggle switch. Just like a light bulb.
