i agree with everyone who says the celica can be a fast car. lets put it this way, how much hp do most civics start out with? around 90 or so give or take? i was in the supermarket at the magazine isle and saw on the cover in bold letters: CIVIC WITH 1000 HP! i dont know if the celica is capable of doing that but i know it can go above what most people think it can! realisticly, who wants to handle a 300+ hp car!! its scary and freakin awesome at the same time, but thats just me. as long as you believe you can do it, it'll come true, i mean, i saw a hooked up kia rio... i know they thought it could be done!!!

CELICAS ARE NOT RACE CARS!!!! You want it fast, get another car. The mods you're gonna do to make it really fast are gonna cost you almost as much as the car itself. Its not worth it. I know a few guys that race in celicas, Auto-x. they are plenty fast for autocross; they own in the twisties. One of the better guys runs a gt, he mounts slicks, and that's pretty much it; he dominates at the track too. If you want to drag race, then yes, there are plenty of cars better suited from the factory, but on a road course, the celica will own.

If you want speed for long term use, you should get a turbo,as NO2 is expensive in the long run.
When I find myself in a position like this, I ask myself what would General Motors do? And then I do the opposite!

Celicas are actually decent race cars. In AUS, they race in production calss and they actually get decent placing. ANd it isnt always the speed you gotta consider curb weight, its handling, etc

Stock celicas are economy vehicles. Sure you could swap engines, drop in a turbo, new fuel pumps, injectors, ignition wires, bore it out, etc. Thats only going to get you so far. I'm saying you need to invest a lot of money to get it going a lot faster. In my opinion, its just not worth it. Intake, exhaust, headers, Carbon Fiber hood, etc and you still lose a street race to a Mustang or Camaro! If you still wanna mack it out, go for it. I've heard ppl spend thousands and only get average dyno results. Mustang and Camaros are not in the same category as the Celica. It's like saying "Mike Tyson vs. Oscar De La Hoya".

It's really up to the type or race your going into. straight line races which you're gonna end up spending a lot more for turbo, tires and etc. while curve tracks all you need is good suspension, brakes, a 2zz engine from a GTS, and a lot of know how. I've seen a video from japan where a new MR2 with 2zz engine swapped (celica GTS engine) own the s2k and 2 other silvia turbos.

just to remind u, you cant really turbo ur celica cz you got a drive by wire, and i dont think these companies have made turbos for dbw. so ur work is gonna be longer and convert it back to throttle cable and shit like that. but, the celica isnt really meant to be turboed, nor driven really hard. but it begs for some fast driving once in a while. i would say that if you know how to drive the car and shift nicely then the car is fine if you do so once in a while. the rev limiter at 8400rpm is there for a reason, but the tranny is a bitch to get and put in the shift quickly and most annoying downshifting and rev matching. Ok first... 1. C2Power makes a turbo kit that works with DBW 2. Dude how confusing is this sentence ...( the celica isnt really meant to be turboed, nor driven really hard. but it begs for some fast driving once in a while.) Not sure about your celica, but i run my celicas ass into the ground, and have been doing so from 2001. Got tired of the N/A power and went F/I, just dyno'd about 316whp 348to the crank and have had that for about 6months and still no problems. Stance...it was meant to be driven hard from the factory 3.Just a thought...how many cars in the same class can you name with a rev limiter above 7800. I can only think of a couple right now. Wit that being said, the car was meant to be pushed and pushed in the upper RPM band, which also backs up my stance in #2 above. 4. You need to get out and practice your shifting. I have have found rev matching and shifting to be one of the things I enjoy on the car now, and it wasnt that hard to learn. I actually like the stock tranny better than the c2power tranny for awhile because all the time i took to learn Heel and toe with the stock tranny was a little different, but its all coming together with practice...just practice more
