Need an opinion on something. I'm almost 40 years old now and I'm starting to feel a little stupid when I drive my Celica. So I'm thinking of a BMW M3 or 528. Trick it out with a turbo, built motor, sound system, wheels, etc...

Don't get me wrong, I will always love my Celica and will keep it forever. It makes a great show and is a lot of fun to drive, but for a daily driver, I need something that will fit my age a little better.

I want it to look good, be very fast, very comfortable, roomy inside, handle well, be a very quiet ride, not be too flashy and make me look rich and classy even though I'm just an old dork who really doesn't have much money.

so...

1. What do you all think when you see an old man in a Celica?

2. Wouldn't a tricked out BMW fit my age a little better?

3. What car would be cooler than a BMW and still have all the things I mentioned?

Why be insecure about what you drive? Atleast you have a new car - and basically that's all that it is, right ??? Just a vehicle for transportation...

...unless you are using it to race people - in which case, we all have a general idea of how fast the Celica really is grin

BUT!!! you are not old. you arent even 40! i mean, seriosuly, your not old till your 60. or you LOOK 60. but, age dont matter its if ur happy. my dads 46 years old and drives a suzuki aerio hatchback. of course, he looks 36, but w/e, he loves his car, and you should too!

1. i just think its a guy who likes the car...nothing more and nothing less
no one will judge you out there on the streets, people look and will move on

2. just to have an answer to your question i dont really think there are cars for certain ages so get waht you like, like kmlgts said

3. an audi s4 has everything you want and more...may want to look into that
the price is somewhat high but its well worth it

Thanks R3DLIN3GT,
I should say that it's not really what people think of me that bugs me, it the fact that I feel out of place. Like I'm trying to be a kid.

I do like the Audi, but I love the lines of the BMW.

Forgot to answer isaac's questions...

I don't really use my Celica for transportation anymore. Mostly just for shows now. That's one of the reasons I'm car shopping.

i agree with popular belieft, i actually like seeing guys in their 30-40's driving celicas, becuase it proves it's not just a kid car.and it's not, its a sweet ass machine that isn't really a cheap car either...its reliable, good on gas, and performs great.. and i dont think you should let your age stop you from driving one!

Thanks mxsuperfly25,
I wonder what would happen if I asked this question on a Camaro or Mustang forum.
I'm starting to think that all of you love the Celica so much that you would never say anything bad about it. Not that I don't love it. It's just that even I think old people look a little funny in Celicas.

i say it depends on if you want those type of features so bad that you will get a new car. celicas are fine unless you have a family to tote around or something. But a luxurious car is nice if you just want a comfortable ride smile Personally, I think its great when I see the older retired crowd with nice sporty cars. I'm always like "damn they are livin' good". But its your decision. go with a nice BMW or Audi the next car you get if you want to. but don't give up your car right now just because of your age. thumbsup

i say keep the celi and go for a IS300 (soon to come out with the IS430) or A4 or even the volvo s4, they're all bad ass cars, if its just for show, keep it, and get a comfortable ride that is quick and still stylish, those cars I mentioned dont really even need to much mods to look great! just my opinion...

No, I'll never give up on my Celica, but there is a couple more things I don't like about it besides my looking too old for it, like... I would like a little more elbow room and it's so loud on the freeway that I can't just talk to my wife on long trips, I have to yell. (Yes, I still like to talk to my wife).

And that was just with the TRD exhaust. Now it has a damn 3" pipe from the turbo back to the N-1. I can't even imagine how that's going to sound.

Thanks Haggard,
Those are nice cars, but I forgot to mention that I was looking at older BMWs for about 10k. About a 1997 or so.

I can't leave anything stock though. Have to trick it out.

Yah, it bothers me to see OLD & mean OLD men driving their Corvettes, Porches & Lexus soft tops at 10 under the speed limit. Engines all full of carbon & never being driven like they were made to be driven. Its just sad to give a beautiful machine a home like that. thumbsdown

If you wear your shades, color your grey hair & drive it like a Celica should be driven, you should fit right in. grin

Some of the sickest rides I've seen are owned by older men in there 30s and 40s. Where the heck do you think some of the nicest rides come from? Not a whole bunch of 20 year olds can afford crazy ass $100,000 in mods. Some can, no doubt about that, but any man at any age with the right passion can do ANYTHING!

Why even bother about your age? My dad's 51 years old, and drives the 240bhp audi turbo quattro in the picture. Nothing wrong with having a cool modified car and beeing older.

Ok maybe i'm the first...but i kinda agree with you badceli...NOT that I think you look actually STUPID...because it's hard to imagine someone looking stupid in such a hot car...

BUT if you're in your middle years i guess you could call them...you will probably NEED a more practical car for your age soon. My parents are in their upper 40's...and in pretty good physical shape...but it's just a pain for them getting out of a car so low...and being a little tight in there they feel packed in...which you said you do too...so...if you don't change now..you might want to in a few years. If i would see my dad getting out of my car on a daily basis...I would be like that's awesome...but at the same time i would be like...a grown man like that belongs more in a classier car...an older muscle car...or a bmw, benz, porsche, etc. if he has the money for it.

Honestly I'd love to join the group and say that "as long as you love what you drive age doesn't matter" which is TOTALLY true...but i'm not going to romanticize it that much. Admit it...you would feel MUCH cooler AND classier in a tricked out M3, or infinity G35, or something of that nature. You're a little older now...you deserve classier performance cars than the celi...and everytime you would pass a 'ricer' you would be like haha i'm better than you...but still have respect for it from having a celi...It sounds to me like you have the money...so I'd go for one of the cars I mentioned. But props for rockin the celi!

I hope this helps you make your decision...

But don't forget...i saw some almost 50 year old guy with 200,000 into a vw bug...and he had fishbowls in the headlights... spineyes Do whatever you love.

OK, I'm 45 and enjoying the hell out of my Celica. I'll probably still own it when I'm 55. But, if you've just gotta make a change, I wouldn't recommend a BMW. They're way too expensive for the amount of maintenance you have to pour into them (i.e. they break down a lot). For something like what you're looking for, I'd recommend an Acura or Lexus.

IMO if your like the kinda guy thats goes to work in a suite and is very professional go with a BMW, but if you can just go to work in a T shirt and some jeans then i would go with old musle, there is a grounp of guys were i live that have souped up vipers and there hair is WHITE, its like and old mans club for vipers and they all drive really fast. but i do agree with the poeple in there corvettes driving under the speed limit angry...if you really canr decide...ENNY MENNNY MINY MO rofl thumbsup good luck

1. When i see an old man driving a celica i think that hes driving his sons or daughters car.

2. An M3 would def fit you a lot better. it looks awesome and its fast as hell. when the women see that ur driving that , there gonna be more impressed than a celi.

3. I think the M3 is perfect. IT has everything you want plus more. ITs not that common either. Just dont get a corvette. the only people i see driving corvettes are 40 year old men who are in a mid life crisis and decided to buy a corvette. and i see a lot more corvettes than M3's.

since you've said the celica is going to be mostly for shows and not a daily driver, why would you want to drive around a show car and risk it getting messed up on the road? If the celica is going to be "retired" from daily driver status, IMO i would get another car to replace it as daily driver. That way the celica gets pampered (so to speak) by way of maintaing show status, and you have something with a little more balls for getting from point a to point b. BMWs are a nice step up from the celica thumbsup best of luck in your car shopping! wave

I'm 44. I've got a 03 yellow Celica GTS 6spd with bat's black hood in-lay. I've owned a 66 corvett, 57 chevy, 73 Mustang Mach I, 80 Trans am pace car. This is the best sports car I have ever owned. It's my daily drive 50 miles each way to work. I hit 90 to 100 every day. Nothing on the street walks away from me.

Who say's middle age people can't have fun & look good?

I say go with the IS300. You can get 1 a few years old kinda cheap. My boy traded in his Celi for a white 1 with the V6. He LOVES it. Fast too. Handles great. thumbsup

Since you are addressing your concerns, I believe it be best to actually look towards an alternative. IMO, I would believe that an old man driving around a teenagers car does look silly. You say you're looking into a BMW. Since you're around 40, that would suit your lifestyle more. Aggressive, yet refined. When people see toyota logo, they think "it'sj ust a toyota". When they see the propellers or the Benz logo, they think "this guy has made it, he's doin pretty well". So if it's in the interest of your reputation or career, by all means make the change. Give the car to your daughter or son, they'll be of age soon, if they're not already there.
