When I look at the 2006 Eclipse specs I can't help but think that this is what the 2006 Celica should have been like.

Unfortunetly it seems doubtful that Toyota will ever pull it's head out of it's colective ass and offer something like this to the public again.

Toyota has given up on the sports car market in favor of grocery getters, and the current Scion line just dosn't do it for me.

i wouldn't get it cause its mitsu and you know the only reason it has that stuff is so they can get their sales up, doesn't mean it's better

but i think it looks better than previous ones.

I dunno... I don't really like it. I still think the 95-99 Eclipses were the best body style ever...

I'd rather keep my Celica then buy one of those...

My car is gunna be 10x faster than yours...haha... I'm gunna buy like 10
of those speedchips! I figure if 1 gets me 20hp then 10 will get me 200hp!

i agree with everyone here plus...the ass end looks huge...kinda reminds me of older people's cars...if you know what i mean..freckin boats they are! eek I'll stay with my Celica!

PS i don't agree with "this is what the next celica should have been like" Toyota made our body and it looks really awesome...the thing they SHOULD have done was had a more powerful engine!

I prefaced that statement with "when I look at the specs", what I was trying to say the next Celica should have been in that power range, not body style.

Although its got 260hp, it does also weight 3500lbs (1000lbs more then the Celica)! So I think its going to be fairly average in performance and definately not faster then a GTS.

Id like to see the interior. The outside looks good and the specs seem nice but I didnt like the current eclipse interior. If it haas a nice interior id say go for it. They give 10 years 100000 mile power train. If anything major goes youre covered.

DJ_Curtis if you can afford the EVO, get that instead! That is a well reputable, fast n powerful car. I'd pick that over the Eclipse anyday.

It's still going to handle like trash, just like the current Eclipse. Probably worse, since it seems to have grown in size. thumbsdown

that warrenty dont mean shit if you do any mods at all to your cars engine, they will drop that warrenty once they see it, its happened to my friend, he put a cold air intake on his eclipse, took it for an oil change and they told him that if they can take it out right then and there his warrenty would still be good, but of course he didnt lol

Although its not exactly my style this is a quote and pics about the interior from this site:

http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/eclipse_gt.asp

"Step into the new Eclipse and enter into the future of cockpit form and function. High back sport seats with aggressive bolsters and integrated headrests position the driver in front of a four-spoke steering wheel and stylized instrument panel akin to a floating wave. Its soft-touch feel gives the instrument panel an even more upscale appearance. Motorcycle-inspired gauges backlit in Ice Blue complement the instrument panel, providing an aggressive edge."

Im iffy on the interior. Not digging the seat colors but im sure you can pick other colors. I like the dash coloring and the doors. Not digging the steering wheel. Gauges look like they would be hard to see. Id test drive one. Maybe if you can get blue instead of red in the interior and no white on the seats i might get it

The one that he said was a better purchase (FQ 320) is the MR here. The one he tested was the FQ 400. BTW FQ stands for Fuckin Quick at least they know how to name there cars.

Only 260 hp?

Probably weighs 3000 lbs, AGAIN, and will be slow as shit.

Should have been 400HP and 400 ftlbs

all i can say about the new Eclipse is puke puke I like ones out now better. I am assuming its going to be around 25k or more for the best package. the highest package for the 05's are like 25k. Imagine how much these things are going to be. might have more power than us but its pretty damn ugly. Its like driving a Maxima, but worse. It looks like it should be used for offroading or something.

at the end of the day, its a Galant thats been factory tuned. It'll be just like the existing one, kinda looks like a sports car, kinda perfomes like one, and is much too expencive.

anyone else think that the side view mirrors are put in a funny spot? It's too heavy for my taste, but look at this:

GTS:
2500 lbs / 180 hp = 13.89 lbs per hp

Eclipse:
3500 lbs / 260 hp = 13.46 lbs per hp

(3500 lbs based on post above)

I'm not going to analyze launching, torque, and all that other stuff, but it doesn't seem as bad...still 3500 lbs is a lot to get moving from a dead stop.

Also I've heard that Mitsu has come up with their own type of VVT (forgot the name of it). Anyone know if that's going to be included on this Eclipse?
