Hey,
I was wondering if anyone knows of good brake pads for the celica. Lately mine have been overheating way too much and I cant get good drifts on with the rears, and also my fronts seem to be underpowered after heavy braking/driving. Im lookin for somthin good for street that wont overheat and has awesome braking friction. Any good ones for that>?
and while we are on the subject, same scenario for my mr2
Autozone brake pads just wont cut it for me anymore smile

TRD pads run from $80-$90 if im not mistaken.

axxis are good, but will mess up your rims I have them and it throw dust like crazy I will not get them again Its a Pain in the A** to clean my rims now.

Just get the stock one. Toyota OEM. They are just brake pads. Save yourself some money becuse a few years down the road they are going to have to be replaced anyway. thumbsup

EBC is shit, trust me.

OEM on a GT is shit, GTs need some extra bite up front to make up for the drum. Hawk (aka TRD) or Axxis (made by rotora) are the best for both models but a GTS can get away with OEM.

Hawk is TRD??? I have GTS, and right now im having trouble locking up tires...i have crappy autozone generic pads, but where can I find pads other than the dealership?? I can't find any dealership with TRD's in stock, nor can i find HAWK or Axxis at any online store i searched for and anywhere else I dont know where to look.

and by the way, brake pads make a big difference, if you dont think so you may not drive your car very hard, if you brake hard a lot it will overheat and then you will have no braking ability thats worth anything anyway, as I do everyday... frown

i ahve trd pads and i love them and the back set cost $45 and the front i think is $50 and thats from the dealer so plan to spen about $100 for all 4

You are so funny. I can assure you that I am not a moron. I like my Celica because of the looks and decent performance. Why post something stupid like your coments. Brakes are brakes. They are just comsumables. There are a ton out there. Semi-metallic, ceramic the list goes on an on. Yes I have heard of autocrossing and I personally think that it is stupid.GT is better due to the wider powerband, trust me I have heard everything. Brake pads alone are not going to drastically improve your braking performance. You need to upgrade to drilled or slotted rotors. I would go slotted because drilled tend to crack under high stress and years of use. You should also go with a high quality ceramic brake bad. I used to race when I was in high school I trust me I do know what I am taking about. Getting better brake pads will only slightly improve your performance. The GT isn't know for its great breaking due to is rear drums. There aren't many options out there but you can go with a big brake kit up front but that will throw off the cars braking balance.

^^^ Well said, don't agree with you two fighting but mv's point about brakes I agree with, new pads only help some. GT's have shit brakes but since Hooman has GTS that is not his problem. Multi piston calipers are the real solution to poor braking.


To get back on topic, Hooman Hopup racing has Axxis pads and WC toyota as well as toyotapart4u.com have great prices on TRD. I think those would be good choices other than a multi piston caliper, that would really give you the bite you need. Stoptech, SSBC, Brembo, and Rotora are good choices for new calipers.

Does anyone have this clicking noise on their GTS by any chance? The brakes works good, but right before I step on the brake pedal, there is this one clicking sound. Someone told me that it is the brake pads moving around, this does not sound too safe, wtf!

So, will the TRD pads help me out?

This is a commom problem with all celicas. My car does it when I got from reverse to drive. The first time I hit the brakes they make a slight clicking sound. Totally normal. Don't worry about it. TRD pads won't help this.

I don't have stock brake pads, my pads will not lock the tires completely, this is due to them overheating, same scenario with my mr2, the reason poor brake pads, they overheat at the first moment of intense usage
i have not been able to "drift" with my celica since then and I really need the brakes to be back to stock equivalent or better.
that is what the point of this thread was in the first place and since dealers in atlanta like to overcharge trdparts4you is awesome.

i beg to differ, i make more torque and hp across the 'whole' rpm rev range than a i/h/e gt.

i have a better powerband, and better gearing, better breaking also.

a stock gt has a more usable powerband over a stock gts for auto x, but not over me.

I had drums on the rear and now i have discs. and I have to disagree with the common belief that the GT sucks at braking because of the drums. I still have stock brakes and pads and I've done some pretty incredible things with them. I've been able to stop in incredibely short distances while going extremely fast, just gotta know how to pump it. adding on the discs give almost no new improvement, maybe quicker response and thats it.

And what do you mean by getting "good drifts"? are you using your e-brake to try to manuver around cones? if thats the case then its not you pads its the shoes controlled by the e-brake cable, its inside the hat of the rear rotors

I don't think you are right, but correct me if I am wrong. The e-brake uses the same brake as the rear brakes, I am prettty sure about this but you sound confident which makes me want to say hmmm, and I am pretty sure its the pads because I only recently have this problem after replacing my stock pads with generic autozone shit. I have the problem under non-ebrake braking as well. Can't lock up all 4 anymore.
