Is the mileage recorded on a chip in the instrument cluster, or elsewhwere? Just curious if I swapped the instrument cluster to one from a higher mileage car, if the mileage would follow the cluster.

I was wondering about a similiar situation last night. I was wondering if there is a wire you can cut to stop the milage from going up (not that I'd do it though! rofl). I don't think it is located there though. It's probably somehwere else in the car.
