On my 01 GT 5spd, there is a clicking noise coming from the engine. It clicks faster as the car is revved. I changed my oil and it did not fix the problem. Is this normal, are my lifters tapping, do I need to go to a shop and get it looked at? Please help, thanks.

Actually yes I did. Does warranty cover this with 19000 miles and Injen CAI and Tanabe exhaust? Thanks for your input.

My next question is, is it ok to drive, short distances, how about a highway trip like 120 miles or so?

it is still driveable i guess, but you will damage your valve and the cylinder under it... if they aren't damaged already. [ 02-03-2003, 08:05 PM: Message edited by: glitch ]

How much do valves cost, and what is the difficulty level in replacing them?

Toyota hates fixing mis-shifts and will try anything not to. It costs them an arm and a leg. They will try to use your mods as a reason to void your warranty. Take your CAI off...but good luck with your ECU tube since you had to cut it...

Do you guys think it could be the injectors. That is where majority of the sound seems to be coming from. I think the noise may be normal.

I have the same clicking noise, but is it possible to misshift with an automatic?

I don't know if the valves are entirely to blame. Most people change their oil and the ticking will go away. I have the same problem right now and already did an oil change almost 300mi ago, but I let my engine run pretty dry and didn't really go easy it on her. Plus I was having issus beforehand where I had loss of compression in my 3rd cylinder and had some oil on the spark plugs. So I probably blew my valves but my lifters could have siezed up too. Either way if an oil change doesn't fix your problem be prepared to re-do your top end, which can be expensive if your looking at replacing with performance parts like MWR stage 3 cams and valves, which will run like 2-3000$. I personally feel that an engine swap will be the cheapest fix. EBay motors has the 2zz-ge for like 1200$ tops, some as cheap as 800$.
