i wanna get at least my speakers changed in my 02 gt. i'm looking for something with a lot of kick, and more clarity than the stock speakers. does anyone know a good brand for celicas? or the specs on the speakers?

and also, i wouldn't mind getting a sub either, but if i can find speakers that provide me with ample bass, i'll be happy. if i did put a sub in, it'd probably be one 12 or 10. any suggestions? and custom or jus regular box?

people with audio mods PLEASE hit me back. tongue

How much do you want to spend?

What kind of music do you listen to?

I know that the type of posts that you are looking for are ones where people will tell you exactly what you should get, but to be 100% honest, you really can't listen to any ones advise on this matter.

The reason is because its your ears that are going to be sitting in the car listening to the speakers, so the only way for you to find out what the best speakers are is to go to your local audio shop and listen to them. Also, it's hard to suggest a brand to you because just about every brand out there has at least one high end, good sounding speaker model. Even the crappy brands usually have some thing in there line up that sounds really good.

With all that being said, I will at least tell you what kind of stuff I chose for my car to give you a starting point.

For speakers, I went with MB quart's over any of the competition. MB Quart is generally considered to be one of the top brands in terms of sound quality, but some people don't like them because they think that the high end frequency's that they reproduce are a little harsh. I personally really like the way the highs sound in the Celica, a lot of the harshness is going to be dictated by the tweeter placment, and the Celica happens to have pretty good component tweeter placement from the factory. The best thing that I liked about the MB Quarts compared to the other high end speakers that I listend to was the way that they sounded when cranked up loud. I thought that they faithfully reproduced high volume sound better than any other speaker I listened to.

For amps, I would suggest going with a high quality amp over a cheap high out put amp. What I mean is, don't just judge them by their level of power. I would recommend looking into Alpine and Eclipse.

If you want to add a sub to your car for a little extra bass, I would recommend looking into Eclipse or JL audio subs. I would also recommend getting a sealed box instead of a ported box. You can put a lot more power thrue a sub that is in a orted enclosure, which means you will get a lot more volume out of it, but sealed enclosures sound so much better to me. Again, that's just my opinion.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that I've seen TimePort posting on this forum? If he does, you might want to ask him about this stuff. He is pretty knowledgeable when it comes to stereo.

i dont know much about speakers but i know for subs

if your looking for something that hits HARD then get a 10 inch JL w7 its like all black, looks cool too,as for box, just get a regular one unless you plan on showing your car then a cool idea would be to take out your spare tire, puting the sub in there and making a mold out of the entire spare tire hole, then you can cover your sub, just for protection

I can definitely vouch for that. thumbsup

Not only do the w7's hit really hard, they sound amazingly good as well. The only reason I didn't specifically reccomend it to you is because it sounded like you weren't sure if you even wanted a sub woofer at all, and the w7 line is really expensive. I have a 12w7 in my car. I'm not sure if the price has dropped since they first came out, but I paid over $800 for the 12w7 sub woofer, and that didn't include an enclosure or anything.

i listen to rap and r & b, , so yeah, i'm jus lookin for something with a lot of kick. and if i can find a speaker that provides me with enough bass, and clear sound, when the volume level is high, then i feel that i don't need to get a sub. and the reason why i was posting, is because i was curious about the specs for the speakers in the celica, because i want to know what's the biggest size speaker i can put in. did you guys also replace u're tweaters????

whats wrong with stock celica door speakers? theyre jbl straight from the factory. and they come with an amp! just get a nice sub with about 500 watts and youll be fine. if you want tons of bass, get 2 12s. jlw7's are great speakers but they are EXPENSIVE. price arround. 500 watts per speaker is a good range to work with. keep in mind the price of an amp. amps are the most expensive part most of the time.

I have stock gt speakers in mine and they sound nice enough at a mid volume but you can't really blast them. They are loud enough though to keep your windows open and turn up the music and it will still be clear. Also depends on your head unit. I have an alpine model that i couldn't be happier with, and i also have two 12" alpine type-r subs, and each as its own amp, and they can just about kick my passengers out of the rear seat(I always get a complaint or two from them when i turn it up and they are back there). The way its set up now i have a better sound system then just about anyone around my area, but i'm looking into alpine type r component speakers next. They have 6 inch woofers with a tweeter separate from the speaker, so you can run the volume knob up without sacrificing tone, and i've heard nothing but good reviews from them. Thats just what i went with though.

dont go over 1000 watts w/o a capacitator. as for the speakers...i'de say get a component system. I'm getting 2 infinty kappa perfect 6.1 systems for 154 each...they retail at 550 each. thumbsup If you have a connection at circuit city or best buy you can get good deals on everything.

totally untrue man. 500watts can make you cry. Power doesn't mean as much in the realm of subwoofers. A competent installer can take a single 12 and 500 wimpy watts and hit over 145db. Its been done many, many times. Totally dependent on the enclosure. A sealed enclosure limits the possibilities but with the right vented enclosure possiblities are endless. Take this for example. Nate Munson, 70s Honda civic, extreme class, Viper d2500.1 to a singe DD 9510, 169.8Db. That is unheard of. There are guys out there with 10kw and 8 12s that can to that. So dont take wattage as a sign of how loud something can be...

As for speakers, it depends on what you want to spend. There are a lot of good component sets that offer excellent mid-bass. Just give me a ballpark price range and I'll help you out.

Capacitors are a waste man, they provide nothing at all. You better off upgrading you ground wires under the hood and power wires to a thick awg. If you upgrade the alt+ to batt+ to something like 1/0awg and the alt- to chassis-, and the battry neg to chassis and to engine block you get better results that you will with a cap.

Ummm i'd have to disagree...there is no use for 1/0awg wire for something that small...if ur running over 2000 watts then maybe...but a capacitor will do just fine probably for what you are looking for. It will store enough ampage to keep ur amps at 14.4 and keep ur lights from dimming thumbsup

thats my point though. with the larger wire you'll get better power flow quicker recharge time and better continuity which will make for a much more powerful circuit. The capacitor will give you short little burst of energy and then recharge and do it all over again. By upgrading the wire you'll get a consistant powerful enough to handle all those shorts burst the capacitor would fill in, and your lights wont dim either. with a cap its a 50/50 chance...

polk speakers are ok...I tend to stray from what crutchfield sells only because you can find much higher quality for a lot less.

Headunit no, but I recommend it, amp definetly the stock amp is not sufficient enough to power a good quality component set, plus it lacks a lot of basic features.

you might want to start by buying a decent quality set of front comps and amp then add on as you go.

Those are the two I am looking at getting, I would like to know if the extra cash is worth it as well. What do you guys think of those heads with JBL stock replacement speakers (6 1/2 3ways)?

Alpine Headunits are ok, I prefer eclipse or pioneer. Eclipse will cost you more but its well worth the money. You dont need to buy from crutchfield there are a lot cheaper sites that are just as good.

For an amp, there are a lot of good budget amps for you. 100x2 wrms should be quite sufficient for a simple system. The orion 300/2 from ebay is a good deal, how much are you willing to spend on an amp?

For components there is a multiditude of choices. First I would recommend the CDT Audio CL-61 from www.thezeb.com [thezeb.com], very high quality speakers with better sq than anything in the crutchfield book. After that I would say the new orion P6.2s or the 5.2 because the 6s have a very deep mount. Those should give you trememdous midbass. There are others but i think those are the best.

I have the 9807 model and couldn't be happier with it for the money. And about amps, the alpines i have produce some nice, clear bass. The sub system i have will run you between $8-900 in a regular store, maybe more, but you just get the stuff online and it will be maybe 5-600. Thats what i have so far, but its your system, get it the way you want it, hear what they sound like first.
