I know that every time Ive posted anything about having the sport-shift transmission I get knocked for even thinking about modding it, but before I give up and just go get a stick, let me pose this question|

What do you think an auto GTS would run with an Injen CAI and TRD exhaust? How about even taking it to the extreme, and asking what it would run with a super or turbo setup and a TRD exhaust?

Its all up to you, if you don't think you want a stick, then mod the car you have now, if you think you'd rather have a stick, then wait for the mods, people have their preferences, but what it comes down to is what you want, not what everyone else thinks. thumbsup

i know a GTS 6sp adds 10 to the wheels with those mods going from 160 something to 170 something to the wheels. no bad. for an auto, i don't know but it will improve your performance and you will feel it when you hit lift! thumbsup rice

I found everything on this site :

http://www.newcelica.org/other/dyno/index.htm

It's a little bit confusing... cause the dyno result for the auto is calculate in kw and in the other dyno result they are in HP... confused confused

if you check it, I'm sure that you will find what you need...

I hope that help !

1 hp = 1.34 * kW

or

1 kW = 0.74627 * hp

so 140 hp = 104.5 kW

Ack! That means the dyno test shows the GTS auto making only around 116 HP at the wheels!

US spec cars are slower, 180HP on the crank on GTS cars, the tranny saps the power away, only about 165-170 for the manuals and almost 160 for the autos. Manual shifts help keep times low, out the two extra gears in the manual can make a big difference depending on the driver's skill.

While a shift kit would help, with a sportshift, it's not that big an issue, since the driver manually determines the shift points. However, the shift kit would also add quicker valve body transitions, so it shortens the shift timing, makes them harder, sort of like a short shfter on a manual car.

Torque convertor to raise the stall speed would be cool, think of the convertor as the clutch pedal in a manual car, the higher you stall before dropping the clutch, the more momentum will be built, and the more power you get, overdo it and you can stall the motor or worse, wreck the gearbox. the GTS auto's have a stall of about 2000 RPM, bump that up to a 2500 stall and you will notice a difference, I don't reccommend anything higher than a 3000 stall, new axles would help, and a shift kit would be a must.

Heard a rumour of a LSD kit from phantom grip for the auto, however, I shudder to think of the difficulty in installing it. If you can get one, I suggest it for the most hardcore, serious racer. probably isn't cheap either.
