Guess what car can totally smoke the Ferrari Challenge Stradale (based on the 360 Modena) and the Porsche 911 GT3? If you haven't seen the latest issue of Car and Driver (jan 2K4), it's the new Ford GT. That's right...their supercar that spanked both exotics. Pretty surprising and a pretty good article too, comparing all three supercars. But honestly, I'd rather take that Ferrari for overall looks and performance and as a $200K chick-magnet.
yeah, i'd def still take the ferrari. ford finally did make a decent car though, gotta give them credit for that. the ferrari just looks so much better..although i'd take the modena or spider version cause the challenge stradale is uncomfortable as heck (race version of the modena--so it's stripped down pretty well).
but yeah, and enzo would smoke it--theres not many v8's that can take on the power of a supertuned v12. (the v8 mosler mt900s smokes the enzo in 0-60 time and also beats the enzo's quarter mile...not bad for a car made in florida. the top speed is very much less than an enzo, however)
maybe if the gt does well they'll make something to compete in that class along with the 16.4 veyron, carrera gt, murcielago, and mclaren. who knows...but they do have the $$ thats for sure.

Actually since the Ford GT spanked both exotics, they're thinking that it's actually more comparable to the Enzo and the Saleen S7. "The $401,000 Saleen S7 is about as quick as the Ford GT, and we know of only one car that would surely outrun the Ford -- the $659,000 Ferrari Enzo". (p52 from Jan. 2K4 Car and Drive) I think it's a great buy for your money, $150,000 worth. Here are the speed specs for the GT:
Mph Time (secs) ------------------- 0-60: 3.3 5-60: 3.7 (roll-on) 0-150: 16.9 (7 secs quicker than the Ferrari and Porsche) 0-170: 23
Projected top speed is 200Mph. If I find the article online, I'll post it here.
You guys should get your copy of car and driver...they've also got a 10 best cars feature which includes the S2K, G35, Vette, TSX, RX-8 and many others.

car and driver should read more up on cars..theres quite a few cars that would spank a gt. just my opinion.
I don't know how proud I would be about driving a Ford Supercar (I use the term loosly). I agree they did a good update on a classic race car, but some people don't agree with retro, it impedes progrees to keep living in the past, to each his own I guess.
this just in: '04 ferrari 360 GTC 445 horses pushing a lightweight car. they don't have the stats just yet for it, but maybe this is ferrari's answer to the gt. '04 ferrari 360 gtc [fast-autos.net]
^^ if anyone can find the performance stats (if ferrari has released them) please post..i'm interested myself in what they may be and if they do indeed compete with the numbers a ford gt puts up.

First of all, that is nowhere near being a street car. Second of all, that car has been tuned by an aftermarket company, not even released by Ferrari.
On the side, however, I did see and hear the new GT40 running around the track when they had the Grand Prix of the Americas down here in Miami and man that things haules ass, on top of sounded meeeeaan!!! But yea, based on specs alone, it doesn't look like it's in the same league as the Enzo so far.

you're right about it being a street car (it was made to compete in the N-GT class) but it was introduced by ferrari, actually.
sorry about that, does look like we'll have to wait and see if they do come out with a street legal version. which seems possible. ferrari introduced the (illegal on the streets) 360 challenge, but followed up the next year by introducing the (street legal) 360 challenge stradale. guess we'll just have to see.
First off... the enzo is practically god. In Car and Driver's 0to 100 to 0 test, the Enzo did it quicker than a motorcycle. Granted it was an older crotch rocket, but still... the weight difference is tremendous! The motorcycle did it in a shorter distance (of course) but the enzo ferrari accelerated from 0 to 100mph and then bracked to a complete stop in less time than the motorcycle. It currently holds the C&D record for the 0-100-0 test (and probably will for a while). I say it's damn impressive for any car to out accelerate and out stop a motorcycle.
Next, i would like to see the ford GT go up against Porsche's new monster... the Carrera GT. I think the ford would find itself torn to shreds by that little beauty (which i will hold out to see numbers on before i'll compare it to the enzo, i bet it will be close)

i'm a porsche guy.. and C&D fucked that one up... the GT3 is a lesser version of a 911 turbo, its got a siic kit though.
i would bet anything that if they put a GT2 up againsed both of those cars Porsche would come out a winner... that show really pissed me off. GT3 isnt even in the same class as either of the other models.
Isn't the GT3 just a regular Carrear on steroids. I don't think it even has a turbo. I know the GT2 is a stripped down Turbo, that's why it performs better. Yeah, wtf is up with comparing a GT3 with the GT40. It should have been the GT40 vs the GT2, or even better a TECHART GT 600hp
I'm a huge Porsche fan, every since I was alittle kid. They've won the 24 Heurs of Le Mans 15, 16 times, all time record. And a while back I was reading a magazine article where Porsche was ranked 2nd, behind Lexus, as having the most reliable vehicles Toyota was 4th, I think.
The DeTomaso Pantera was designed and built by ford too, and is considered the precurssor to the ford GT40
The new GT uses a supercharged Mod 5.4L V8, vastly superiour to any foreign built V12, and much lighter to boot. The whole reason the GT hasn't changed is because it was way ahead of it's time when it first appeared as the GT40. Still, ford found room for improvement.
They have never abandoned racing, and have factory backed cars in virtually every form of sanctioned racing, most of those exotics are backed by wealthy individuals, and BTW, you can talk smack about the fords, but the race results tell the truth, the GT is a superior car.
I too would like to see the Enzo race the GT, it would give it a good run, but i'm pretty sure the GT would clean it's clock in the long run.
Don't confuse prestige for performance, the ford GT has both, and if I could afford one, I would buy one in a heartbeat, it's vastly supperior to that euro junk imho.

I'd like to see them race a GT v. A GT2 (porsche) my money is on the porsche.
Even in car and driver, they said the GT3 would have done a lot better if they knew how to drive it... fucking idiots coulnt even handle the car they were testing.. what does that say?
Last I heard, they were still working the bugs out tof the sequential gearbox on the GT2, they still had to manually downshift the car, which hurt it's performance. That's also be interesting to see those two race as wellm but it's those european "bugs" that hurt their racing performance, the engineering is okay, but the build quality isn't that good at all on those euro racers, engine and tranny problems are what kills their performance in the long run.
Actually, I'm more interested in the new Ford Shelby Cobra then the GT, they'll probably make a coupe for racing, it's a Carbon Fiber bodied roadster powered by a Race-built Triton V10. If it goes into production, you can bet that they will race it, and knowing the shelby heiritage, it'll probably take on all comers and win.
the GT is a fast car for your money, however it does not have near the style of its competition, if i saw a gT40 drive by i would be like "cool", but if i saw a mozler, or ferari, or top of the line porche, or lambo drive by my jaw would drop, and i woulnt take my eyes off it
was....5speed with i/h/e 15.41 @ 89.30mph 2.282 60'
the productin vehicle is manual, yes, but in most racing series, they update the gearbox to a sequential gearbox to shorten up the gearshifst. I'm a huge speedvision fan, and I'm always watching the races when I can. Lots of the race-built porches have suffering because they're still dialing in the gearboxes for the track, by next season, you sould see a significant improvement in the porche standings.

well when you compare all the cars out there that are race cars the ford gt is 2nd only to the enzo thats true but when you look at how much more it costs n the difference in performance theres not doubt the gt is better if ur on a race track the gt isnt ever gona leave the enzo's rear view mirror n its a whole 500,000+ more and takes 2000+ for a damn oil change now as for ford not making ne good vehicles besides trucks i guess you over looked the mustang americas greatest sport car in history my dads cobra with few mods runs 9s n the new shelby cobra concept is unbelievably fast 97 in 2nd gear n 240 or sumthin is projected top speed it isnt priced yet but prolly will be 200,000 or under still 450,000 less then the enzo n prolly faster in everything except on the track so yea ferrari might look better but there never gona have the raw power n sound of a mustang
