Ever see a car after it plows into a deer? It gets just as mangled. it doesn't shock me that a tree of that size could tear up that EVO so bad. He might as well have hit a steel-reinforced concrete post at that speed.
Trees are very resilient, patient, and are natural survivors, we could learn a thing or two from them
140 MPH is WAAAAY too fast for a drift. Stupid movies (cough cough...2f2f cough) and their stupid product-placing sponsors put ideas into people's heads. I doubt that driver was all that experienced from the look of the pics and the backstory I read. Some people shouldn't drive performance cars period. I must admit that even I would be a bit cautious when behind the wheel of an Evo Lancer, A driver needs to be prepared for anything, and make calculated choices rather than take stupid risks.
Long story short, the driver had no buisness behind the wheel of that perticular car, and when he pressed his luck, showing off in that Evo, he might as well have put a gun to his own temple and squeezed the trigger. I have little remorse for him being dead, although it's tragic that one person had to die, and he had to mangle himself to the brink of death as well, just to satisfy his own ego.
Don't let these people die in vain, Learn something from this person's mistake and think before you act. And if you decide to really push the limits of you and your vehichle, do it in a safe and legal fashion, take it to the track, strip, or autocross event. Don't put yourselves, and all the others out there at risk just to satisfy your thirst for speed. Just use your head... That's all.
My condolences to the families of the victims involved.
that is a messed up picture with the blood in it. and some nasty pics. The EVO 8 is prolly one of the best handling cars out there.. beating the porsche on a track that hasn't been beaten in years. You are pretty stupid to go 140 mph around a turn and live once... but to do it twice. WOW... i just hope the guy survives anyway.
Did the victim survive? If so, how badly was he/she hurt? I'm very interested to know how safe these types of cars are...
there is no stock car on earth that is made to hit a tree at 140mph. the passenger and driver are most likely dead.
I saw this linked to the 2gNT board, so I thought I would chime in with an update...
This was my friend Jake's Evo. It happened here in Colorado. The accident happened 3 days after he bought the car. He had just installed the 4 point harnesses that afternoon.
Some of the facts in the story about this accident were incorrect, so let me clarify. First, the passenger had minor injuries, some bruising and needed a couple of stitches. Jake shattered his femur, broke both legs, and had numerous cuts and bruises. He did wake up from his coma about 4 weeks after the accident. He is now walking with a cane. He is also aware that what he did was stupid and considers himself and his passenger very lucky.
Here's a pic of his car parked next to my Eclipse about 5 hours before the accident happened. It sure was a beautiful car...
I'm so sorry that this had to happen - I am glad that both persons are OK and that no one died because of the crazy driving stunt.
If anything is to come from this story and the pictures - i hope at the very least that someone realizes how dangerous high speeds actually are AND how extremely lucky that the driver and passenger of this vehicle are to still be alive - and most importantly, how lucky the family and friends of these persons are, to still have them in their lives.
Thanks for the update 'BoostedGS'
It's not just your imagination... Your day really does go by twice as fast while on EverythingCelica.com
frankly, who cares about neons? man, the guy, jake, is pretty lucky dude since he's still amoung the living...the first time i saw that ev0, i almost had a tear...
sigh...sad story... first i did not want to reply to this post... but here i am...kinda mad about the neon club people...and others that bash ecelica. they have no idea wut it's like here...
A guy buys a EVO and goes to a local gas station and revs on a group of people. A friend asks to go for a ride. Guy takes the friend on a 140mph drift and barely makes it. 2 hours later the guy tries it again... this time it was wet outside, looses the car and smashes into a tree going 140mph plus. The passenger was severely injured and the driver last I heard (which was about 3 months ago) was dying on life support.
Guys bottom line...
this is what happens when a moron tries to show off, not only did he seriously injure himself, but also his passenger. Going into Inertia Drifts at 140mph into a tree is never healthy.
Damn drifting at 140mph on open roads? Thats nutz. I thought driving 140 in a straight line was pushin it.
Q: How do you double the value of a Ford? A: You put gas in it.
DAMN!! That really looks bad. You can even see blood on the drivers seat. As improvible as it is, I hope the person(s) survived.
yea it looks bad, im just thinkin' bout the person
