To get hired by GM, Ford, etc... My teacher says you have to go to high scale school like Harvard or MIT.

uhhh...I dont think so...many people get hired from normal colleges, a lot from art colleges (concept artists). I really doubt they would hire exclusivly from ivy league/sci nerd schools. But they would have a better chance of getting the job. I've watched shows on discovery where even just high school graduates got a job at a car company, and worked their way up. Hope this helps. thumbsup

I don't mean for exterior/interior designs specifically. I meant stuff like engineering gas engines, hybrid engines, etc...

yea me and my dad are taking classes this summer at a local college to know a little more about car engines, because the cost of maintence is way to high, and we wanna do it ourselves.

you won't get a job building/designing engines/car components unless you graduate from MIT with a degree in mechanical engineering.

It also helps to be brilliant.

Sorry, I misinterpreted what you meant. I thought you meant for like actually putting the cars together...not designing the engines and such.

yes, but only a HANDFUL of people (50-60) actually design engines, and I bet 90% of them went to MIT.

I doubt there's only a handful. I bet GM and Ford alone have hundreds of researchers/scientists working for them. They only make about a billion dollars a year why would they invest into making better engines?idunnoYour right about MIT though.

I'm saying don't lose hope if you can't get into the #1 school. Plenty of very successful people went to state universities smile

in the grand scheme of things where you go to college doesnt really make or break you. Its grad school that will get you the high positions. Undergrad is minute when grad school is concerned. Go to MIT or another highly rated place for grad schhol and you will get hired. Also MIT is always one of the high named schools that comes up but there are plenty other schools with great engineering programs will less nerd appeal. If you are short the absurd ammounts of money, want a good job for awhile go to the naval academy. Great engineering program plus you can fly cool jets afterwards. Ok ok i majored in history, but still had to take thermo, weapons and other engineering classes and i can say that it is one of the best engineering programs in the nation.
