Is there really that big of a difference between the GT and the GTS. how big of a differnece is there in insurance for a 16 male new driver? cause the GTS is considered a sports car while a GT is a passanger car. I mean i'd rather get the GTS cause its faster and everything. but i mean is it really worth it if theres that big of a difference in insurance?
you can get a GT with all the options of a GTS, except the engine. buy what you want... with the budget that is available to you. Car payments, plus car ins, plus gasoline, plus maint or wear & tear.
sounds like you are looking for speed - then dont buy the celica - buy a car that is built to go fast, and not to look fast
Are you looking for fast on the tracks? buy a beater and take it to the tracks... are you looking for fast on public streets? dont forget that you can only go as fast as the car infront of you - ie; leave your house earlier and you wont be late
It's not just your imagination... Your day really does go by twice as fast while on EverythingCelica.com
140 to a 180 hp.. its a nice difference, but im currently lookin into a gt since: 1- i don't want to spend $32 000+ on a car (canadian $$$) 2- insurance will be waaayyy lower if i get a gt
maybe ur in the same situation i am??? just my 2 cents im also 16

I'm 17 and was in the same dilema. I decided to get a new GT with the Action Pkg. If you want a GTS and are worried about money, you could just get a used one
im going to get a used one. a 2000 or a 2001. i want to get a GTS bc its faster and has lift and such. but yet istn there a large differnece in insurance. i mean im not realy like all speed. im more for looks. i mean i guess i wouldnt mind a gt. but id get intake a new exhaust and such. money is not a big problem. acuse my dad will help me pay for a car. but insurnace i have to pay. so i guess im asking whats the difference between a GT and a GTS. and i guess if i get a GT i can just pop off the GT sign haha. no? how many peope here take off the totyota symbol and the GT or GTS symbol?
you're going to see more modded celicas for sale by owner b/c the dealership isn't going to give you anymore for CAI, exhaust, etc, but in the private sector you usually can
Dang thats making me think so much more about buying a GT over a GTS Since I am only 16 also and will be getting one for graduation. So the GTS only takes premium gas? Using regular unleaded is out of the question? Im from so cal and I know the gas prices are high as hell. All these factors are making me wonder. I want the 40 extra hp though because I want to race mine at the track against my friends. I dont want a slow car, but I also dont want to spend over 20,000.

if your getting a car just for racing...get an srt4...the celica 'looks fast' remember? Anyways, if you want a GTS..get one. You wont really be happy if you want something...and then get something not as good (not that im saying the gt's are not good!). Both cars are great...but if it's the GTS you want, get it.
yeah, the insurance isn't too much of a diffeence ($125/6 months for me) if you want a fast car, the celi isn't it...get a civic and put $2000 into it and be running 12s, but look like a fag. OR get a GTS, have a really nice lookin car, that is fast enough to pass in a hurry or get up and go, but not necessarily to race...my .02
I dont want anything to do with hondas. I mean some can be fast but they are just over rated and too many people race them out!!! i mean come on my grandma has an Si. NO joke! Is the celi a good choice to race out?

Not really...there really isnt that much aftermarket support for the celica...theres basically just intake...exhaust...headers...and some superchargers and turbos. You wont be making any major horsepower numbers (around 260-280 POSSIBLY). Though, you can buy a base GT...and for $10,000 put a 3s-gte engine turbocharged and goodies...and have around 500hp...it's up to you...like I have said many times...I like the celicas for its looks...not performance. I hope I helped some.

just dont rice it out.. if thats what you plan to do then dont bother buyin a celi.. at ur age theres no hurry in gettin a car.. i say you get a beater car.. getta job and save up.. get the gts.. then tell ur dad to pay for ur insurance rather than the car.. car payments gonna be a lot cheaper and more short term than the insurance payments.. my 2 cents.
I'm 18 and I have a 2003 Celi. If insurance is what you are worried about then deffenitaly go GT. for us younger owners insurance is through the freakin roof. You can always buy parts for your GT later to get that extra hp. If you have above a 3.5 gpa then some insurance aggencies will give you a lower rate. I suggest get a GT, get a job, go to college, graduate, geat a career, get a supra, and live happly ever after.
im 16 and have a gt and trust me, at our age no one is gonna care if its only 140 hp unless your hanging around rich ass kids with bmw's. otherwise id say get what ever is cheaper and your insurance company wont think your joking when you roll up in a gts
A boats a boat, but the mystery box could be anything....Even a boat!

if ur dad is gonna pay for ur car and you only insurance then get the gts it will be worth in for you in the long run because ur gonna wish you got the gts if you get the gt and get manual not auto if you want speed
my dad isnt gunna buy me the car. hes just going to help me pay for it. like i'll put whatever i ahve towards it and he'll put the rest down and ill just pay himn back a little at a time instead of taking out a loan or having a car payement.and then i'm oging to have to pay for the insurance all by myself.
personally i would get a gts. nothing against the GT but after spending the difference in price on upgrades you will only be pulling numbers close to that of a GTS. Plus i'd rather say i have the top of the line celica, than i have the bottom line. I dunno like if i were to get an rsx, i'd want a type s, if i were to get a civic, i would want a SI. Although i would take a base 350Z, but they all have the same engine Celica gets good gas milage, so i don't see a problem spending the extra $$ on premium. Much better than paying for premiun and only getting 19-20 mpg (300zx NA almost got one). How much are you planning on spending? An important thing to think about is what you want your car to be. For me my car is my hobby, my friend, my outlet. I like looking at my car in the parking lot, i love to take it out just for random drives, when i'm angry i love to take it out and push its limits. I mean there are a lot of things to think about before buying a car.
buy a used gts...thats what i did...i got one with 31k miles for 12k...and now i can't live without lift...
Edit: i was 16 at time of buying the gts, i've had it over a year and a half now...and just file insurance under a parent until you are 18; it is legal, and it is CHEAP!
i can't be under my parents insurance. cause if i ever get into an accident they can come after my dads buisness. my dads supposed to get incorperated soon so then the buisness is on a different policy or something. but theres still a couple months until i get my permit even.
get a gt, with the money you save from not getting the gts you can buy a turbo.
and that turbo will do what? boost its power up to that of a gts? not a good idea imo. turbos are not known for being reliable plus they add extra wear to your engine. better just to buy a stronger engine.
not saying pick a gts (i have a gts) over a gt, but i don't recommend buying a gt for the reason that you can afford to put a turbo in it.
Insurance for the GT and GTS are the same. Both are considered sports cars. Of course it will be ridiculously high if you're 16.
Werd. Insurance companies don't base their premiums on horsepower.
some do, my one friend got hit with a power-to-wieght ratio in his wrx and is shelling out like $300 more on his premium
mine insurance company does
and besides, you can find out yourself. just take a visit to any insurance website www.progressive.com [progressive.com] (for example) and plug in the celica gt and the celica gts models (hold everything else the same, obviously. you will find that your quote is higher in a gts
